2Mb at the moment. Nobody else on the line just the TV connected . Managed to get connected to one or two (Just testing things) but a lot of the channels said "No stream available" Hence me wondering of there was an issue with my IP address being from SA.

I'll go and have a look for the FTV addon tonight.

No streams means the link is broken, i.e go look for a new one or wait to see if link is fixed.

Lots of streams on kodi are free and prone to being shut down unless you go for a paid service like NTV, Netflix, Hulu etc.

Coders hack the streams and they make them available free, they are also prone to getting shut down especially paid overseas channels like Sky Sports etc.  Some coders seems to stay one step ahead and is why you can generally find their streams working all the time.. like SportsDevil.

Other streams are Free to Air (FTA) and are always up and running, like most of the channels on FTV which have all the FTA UK, USA and other country channels.

FTV added. Watched a bit of BBC1, BBC4 and the Food Network last night just to check.

I think I need to up my  line speed though (2Mb at the moment. Will look at 4Mb)... The streams started out fine but after a few seconds the picture started to shudder and I lost audio

Going to have a look for Exodus tonight.

Exodus works great and has a lot of movies and series to select from. Choose a SD stream instead of HD, works for me when stream is slower and I'm on a 4Mb line (not that it's what you get).

Thanks. I think my 2Mb line's days are numbered....

So the TV Box was hooked up last night, Ethernet cable plugged in and everything updated. Out the box it is pre loaded with a few addons (Genesis, Phoenix, NaviX, TVAddons and a whole host of others that you can enable).

Having a problem getting channels to stream though... Is there a chance that the lack of a VPN like Unotelly is causing this?

Kodi is a very cool piece of software. After reading up on a few sites, I have a LOT to learn and the learning curve over the next few months is going to be very steep....

So far though, money well spent

We can learn together. I've been playing around with both Kodi and the Roku3.

My trial period with Unotelly has expired, but based on what I've seen I'm going to take the leap and pay for both Getflix and Unotelly.

Cool. All working ok? ITV4 usually has the TdF :)

I am not having too much luck with any of the other addons though. Phoenix, Genesis and Sportsdevil are giving me a lot of "dead" links. I installed the RedbullTV addon and that give me a YouTube error (Something to do with Bromix and having to sign in twice... not sure what that's about)

I will create a G-mail account just for the TV box and install the RedBull TV app from the Playstore instead. Might be easier...

Will def be checking out ITV4 come July though ;)

It's like learning to speak a new language! So many menus and add ons and settings.... I found the menu to customize the add on icons under the tabs last night so I changed one to see if it worked. I exited out of the menu to see what happened and couldn't figure out how to get back in to where I just was!!

I am still trying to get my head around the Unotelly/Getflix thing. Is that just to create the illusion that you are somewhere else other that where you actually are or does it also serve the purpose of masking what your bandwidth is actually being used for? In other words will Telkom (my ISP) only be able to see that I am using bandwidth but not be able to see where it is being used (I am assuming that at the moment they can see exactly where I use my bandwidth and how much is being used...?)

Genesis seems to be dying and not supported as much, Exodus seems to the the new kid on the block that has pretty much everything that Genesis has....This often happens with addons

Sportsdevil... most reliable link is sportsdevil / Sports TV / MamaHD.com... you will get all of sky sports, BT Sports and they pretty much work all the time.

Can't help on Redbull TV, not really used the addon.

I am struggling to find a reliable Eurosports link for the cycling at the moment (well one you do not have to pay for)

You're right about the "learning another language" but.

I got Hulu working (Roku3) which is good enough for now. Watched TopGun of all movies - to test the connection, quality and overall experience.

I have also been watching Touch on Kodi via the Exodus add-on. I started watching it on the flight to/from China a few years ago and now I can get to finish watching the 2 seasons.

What I really need to get working is the live streaming for sport channels. I've downloaded the Sportsdevil and ZemTV add-ons but still not satisfied.

Edit:

I am about to pull the plug on Telkom/MWEB and go with a wireless setup giving me 5x the speed (uncapped and in throttled) for 90% what I am paying now. And because it's on the wife's business name, the connection should receive higher priority than the personal home use (Time will tell to see them deliver on that promise).

They told me not to worry about using data for streaming.

Guys, please be honest, is this really worth the schelp? I followed this from the beginning and it seems like it’s a bigger headache than anything else or am I getting only the bad apples?

I haven’t had DSTV since November last year and only watched the cycling (epic, world track champs, spring classics etc) at friends’ houses. We moved recently and I am now waiting for my internet line (don’t ask why I am waiting so long, thats another story) and I am just worried when I get Kodi going it not going to be worth all this trouble. I cant go on without cycling on TV…..

kinda of second this notion

tried it and it is proving to be a bit of hassle

There is a surround sound system type amplifier selector type thing, the DVD player, the TV (which is a non smart TV) and a PC (which I want in another room).

How on does one start to go about connecting these things so they work of a remote (or do you still have to have like 10 remotes?)

Took me less than an hour to get it set up, just follow the video link in the beginning of this thread. Definitely worth it. Exodus is from the same developer as Genesis, their new version.

Look it's not perfect. But it's free.

It's a LOT less slick than say Netflix. For someone who isn't technically savy I'd recommend Netflix and an Apple TV

DSTV?? F%*K THAT SH%T. The ONLY reason to get DSTV is live sport. And let's be honest. For the price of DSTV you could go down to the pub and catch the game on TV AND get wasted. Or better yet. Buy a season ticket and watch your local games live.

For cycling there are a bunch of youtube related sources and even some "television" shows like GMBN and GCN.

For the kind of stuff I'm into most of it is on Red Bull TV and torrents. I'll NEVER have DSTV ever again.
