Lol. I used to think that. But lately I'm trying to embrace it. My knees hate me this morning, but it's working. Very easy to get a quick run in. Bit more difficult to get a quick ride in

that is the reason I started running.  Glad your scale is making you smile again!!!

My solution is to get up earlier. It IS more difficult, but possible to get a quality session in without disrupting the normal day to day activities.

I got into running some months ago, at first it was going ok and I was doing up to 7km on some runs. Then I started having issues with my lower back so gave it up.

it is also getting lighter and warmer now guys so easier to train early, we were paddling at 5:00am this morning and there were plenty of runners and cyclists out and about compared to a few weeks back, bit of light and warmth makes it far easier...

As mentioned, due to time constraints I want to be able to run for 30 min. Never ran further than the toilet for 15 years.

There was a thread some time ago that discussed starting VERY SLOWLY. Middle age knees need to be conditioned. My search skills is severely lacking, could anyone perhaps help in finding that thread?

You can use something like this

Veebee, try strengthening your core and stabilizers in order to control and improve your back pain, not just good for running but also cycling.

I have been focusing on that alot more now, planking and regular core work and balance. It has helped on the bike. Will give the running a ago again after Shova.

The time aspect is exactly while I initially started running as well and convenience when traveling for work. Packing shorts a tshirt and running shoes is way easier than a bike and all the kot and it's also cheaper! I will have to get back on that wagon

all this talk about getting faster...the big question...has there actually been any improvement.

yesterday i decided to take the rattlin red rocket out for a test.

segment...country club to blue lagoon

my first circuit ride on the 25 November 2015 -

time 6:45 at a speed of 13.5 km/h estimated 120w

last night 22 September 2016 -

time 2:02 at a speed of 44.9 km/h estimated 344w

who said you need to slow down and play golf when you get to 50...i am just getting started...by the end of the year i hope to reach all my cycling goals...

all the 40 km mtb races in kzn...done.

tour Durban under 4 hrs...done

Amashova...no stopping and under 4 hrs w( will have to wait and see)

there is only one goal i might not achieve and that is to be the fastest "50 year old" on 1 segment of the circuit...i didnt realise how fast these old ballies can ride...not going to stop trying.

did a ride with the club from Hillcrest to camperdown and back on sunday...had such a *** ride...battled to finish 89 km.

took a step back and tried to figue out why...been putting in the TITS...lots of them...did 200 km in 2 days a couple weeks back and managed 20 PR's...so why did i battle.

lack of sleep...didnt set my alarm because of the rain...woke up late and had to dash around trying to sort out kit etc.

food intake prior to the ride...went to the movies the night before...didnt eat diner and ate junk...

fuel during the ride...no fuel just water.

got home felt like i did after the first long ride  i ever did...^&*%^&*

so i have decided it is time to change a few things...starting with my bad eating habit.

wife is on board...no more chocolate muffins etc.

Monday i decided no more junk...no more bad sugar.

Monday...104 kg

Tuesday...103.7 kg

Wednesday...102.7kg....the lowest i have been in years.

Time to put in the effort to get a light as possible for the Amashova...and at the same time reach my 100 kg goal.

the big question is how much do i ride from now until the amashova...

take it easy and just do a few short rides or do i go down to the circuit and give it horns...

take a long slow flat ride on the weekend or do hammer the hill climbing.
