Finished my first one in 5:48. I started in C, so luckily there weren't too many people pushing up Ou Wapad by the time I got there. I really need to up my downhill skills as everyone I passed on the uphills just came flying past me on the downs. This thread really helped a lot in terms of of knowing what to expect, one example being the Simola climb. I'm just glad I managed to do the entire distance without pushing up a single hill. Chances are good of me going back next year.

Who else stopped at "Ronnies Sex shop"

Yup, first time we stopped there. In the past we stopped at the Wimpy on Montague but has closed down. From now on it'll be Ronnie's - nice vibe and location.

Ekt so goed gevoel ek sou nog n end kon ry.

Lekker race report en well done lerouc! Volgende jaar sub-4?  :whistling:

Another thing i wanted to mention is all the staff/crew/people working at the K2C were the friendliest i have come across. From registration to the finish.

Kudos to the people at the water points always up for a joke greeting almost every rider coming past. From the small kiddies filling bottles to the ou ooms calling out "aartappels earth apples". This makes an event even more awesome. And also all the waterpoints which i came past had everything you wanted stocked. coke/powerade/water/patatoes/bananas/jelly sweets.

There are a lot of events out there that can learn a lot from the guys at the K2C!!

True this!

And it rubs off on the riders too. Even the most sour, bitter arsehole that is out to complain throughout the whole ride, can't help but become a friendlier being, even if it is for just the few hours he/she is on the bike.

Just one thing about sub 4, you'll need to start in the front part of A. As hard as I pushed it is just out of reach from the back of B.

So true. I started right at the back of A and it was a mission getting a sub 4. 3 min over for me. I was in no man's land from the 35km mark already so my ride was pretty lonely but very nice.

I think this headline Naas's question on an earlier thread on whether the presence of pro's attract other entrants.

Pennypinchers Lions Karoo to Coast draws record entries"...

and long may it last. I fear that the race may struggle to maintain its popularity if its only us fun riders participating. For me part of the allure was just how much faster the pros manage to do this than the average Joe. The real test will be next year, where people are now alerted to the fact that pro's may no longer compete, and whether or not people would pay over R400 for an entry for "just" a fun ride.

If the Argus loses the pro peloton, there will be no reason to broadcast it live.

Nope, I don't think so. Most people cycle for the fun of it. Honestly I don't even know the name of a single pro. They should get real jobs like the rest of us and cycle for the fun. I'll gladly pay R800 to ride K2C.

Interesting point, always nice to compare yourself against the pro's but would it stop people from entering if they aren't there? Not so sure - most of us finish hours behind them anyway.

So this was my first K2C and boy was I unprepared! My fitness was fine, but my knees and but... not so much. I've been struggling with ITBS for a few months and guess who decided to show it's head at about the 60km mark. Luckily it's a downhill race so I managed to rest my knees at every oppurtunity.

All in all it was an epic experience and I'll definitely be there next year. The scenery was beautiful, the weather was amazing, the people were fun and the general gees was just awesome.

I saw freaking SMOKE coming from a guys breaks at the first downhill! Also, I almsot bailed hard pulling faces for the camera haha, went straight into a ditch on the right-hand side for about 30m. Somehow managed not to fall... to the dissapointment of all my friends.
