Then again at the price and once setup then riding what the Gautengers call singletrack it should last a lifetime.

what do you mean , single tracks you actually have to pedal , not just hold on to your bike with your feet on flat pedals? careful you don't let your elbow padding give you a rash !!

There is a strange make at checkers. But shimano deore all over. For only 5999.

It's called a Cyclone. I think good value for money. They have a road bike with full Sora for R5999 too

You'll easily pay R12k for a similar bike at a bikeshop.

My question is quite simple, if Checkers can sell bikes with these specs for these prices, why can't we get more well known brands at the same price? Someone is making huge margins from us.

I've got a Makro plonker - call it 'the lead pipe special'. Cost about R600, but that was 10 years ago. Weighs a ton, handles like a ship at sea - but it's still going, good for a hard training workout, or a commute, when the other more delicate bikes are not ready etc...

I've mentioned this years ago, but my cousin' husband bought a Makro bike, and my folks were living on Lourensford Farm at the time. They visited my my parents one weekend, and he tried out his bike,...Long story short,(and honest story, I can provide contact if needed), the fork collapsed on a bunny hop over a speed bump (flat road, low speed), and landed solid on his head. Results: Blood on the brain, had a stroke on impact, 2month coma, now left side paralysed, speech affected, with serious mood swings.....my cousin was married to him for 6months before this happened...

Goedkoop koop is Duur koop....

when he was still here Johann of Yellow Saddle was tasked to assemble a number of these bikes which were then to be donated. Seasoned sailors would have blushed at the language he used while building them.
