1x11 or not

I went 1 x 10 recently using a 32T ring with Praxis 11-40 cassette. Its been ok, done a couple of races incl. Atta and Barberton Ultra. I find that top end is where I'm lacking.

Its not that great but I can't go back to 2 x 10 as the frame is 1 x specific.

1 x 11 with 10-42 cassette should do the job.

That is my biggest issue with the Shimano 1x11 or the 1x10 options.

Coming from a 3x (42/32/24) it would effectively have meant dropping the whole of my big blade top end with a 11t still at the back, which is a bit of a big penalty for the gain of a 1x?  This is where the sram shines in my view with the 10t as that makes a big difference in minimizing the top end loss.

1 tooth really a 'big' difference if we're talking as you say 'the whole of your big blade'?

I saw a 10x 42/10 cassette that exists.... somewhere... worth a test...

It's a 10% difference in gearing, so ja. It's essentially like replacing your 36t with a 40t at the front.

IE instead of spinning out at 40kph, you now spin out at 44kph.

how many people spin at 100RPM? #ekvramaarnet

So I did my7 1x11 conversion on Saturday and tested yesterday.I went with thye Shimano Xt upgrade kit with a 11x42 and a AB 32t Oval front and all I can say is daaaamn its awesome. Was very worried about the hills especially with a 32t on the front but it really surprised me. We ride Giba quite a bit and it is steep in dome places here but I did not use the 42t once, was in the 37t for most hills. The Oval to me does not make any difference on the downs and the flats but I could feel the difs on the hills and it does make them feel easier.I mainly do trail and enduro riding so for me it works very well. A bit strange because I was looking to push the shifter on the left the whole time but there was nothing :D

Seen 11-42 in 10 speed but not 10-42. Would be keen to try. With the 32 T and 11 at the back I'm spinning out at around 42km/h

using the road bike on the road, solves this problem

Which is not that big but some who do marathons might say that makes a big difference but for trail and enduro its not really a train smash.

Yes that 1 tooth really makes a difference  .  To compare the 32/10 it feels almost the same as the combo I usually ran my 42t front blade in when solo "cruising" at speed being 2nd/3rd smallest rear cog at the back.

No problem on the road bike with 53/11 other than down the steepest hills here in Jozi. Not quite sure what the road had to do with this.
