if those are his kids and he did what is speculated at this point I am only sad for his family and have lost all respect for him...

Think they are. Heartbreaking.

My childhood memories include skateboarding and BMXing in the street.

Skateboarding was all about Tony Hawk.

BMX was all about Dave Mirra.

Both X Games legends.

This is a sad day...

Looks like he had two little girls. My heart goes out to them.

RIP. Finally.

Sad about his passing. From my era and obviously followed his career!

Even more saddened that he went the way he did. Will openly admit that I do not understand suicide and have no empathy\sympathy towards people who choose this deliberate act of checking out.

I used to think this way....not anymore...we are only human....as fickle and feeble as our bodies are....our minds are equally fragile...we never know what brought him to this point...

A Legend he will remain...

For sure. Maybe another depression case?

You have expressed sympathy in your comments.

I think (as with many) it's the empathy you (we) struggle with as it's simply a place many people never have to entertain.

Can't be fun dealing with it. My initial reaction was 'how selfish' when I realised he had kids, however the otherside to the coin is how deeply depressed/ troubled one needs to be to go through with it - knowing what you're leaving behind...

Just a sad scenerio, which ever way one looks at it.

Now, do I wear my favourite shirt? It was on top but I moved it to one side before finding out 20 mins later. There must be something in that..

Seriously bummed, sad and angry all at the same time! "Subaru Mirra #40", do I bury you? I know my wife would approve.

This has just been the most awful week. First McGarry and now Dave.

Both were idols of mine, I am really gutted about Dave. Suicide was the last thing on my mind.

I hope you find peace in the huge skatepark in the sky.

RIP Dave!

Very sad week for Biking!!

Dave taking his own life is definitely a shocker, especially seeing as he seemed to have it all makes it even harder to understand.

Possibly attributed to CTE!?

"Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain found in athletes (and others) with a history of repetitive brain trauma, including symptomatic concussions as well as asymptomatic subconcussive hits to the head. CTE has been known to affect boxers since the 1920s."

I've had suicide affect my life (Friends taking their own lives) and it obviously affects the ones they leave behind the worst and it's easy to call them selfish or whatever. It's always out of nowhere and a shock but these people are masters at putting on a brave face. Truth is we never fully understand if we've never been in that situation. But can you imagine deciding to take your own life, you have to be in a very bad and dark space to decide that's your only relief, especially having a young family!

Sad, sad, sad...

Never judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes.

learn a bit about depression before making sweeping statements like that

If it was suicide then taking the stance of calling him selfish is just plain wrong.

Its easy to think like that when you are ok.

I have seen the effects of depression(not that Im saying it was that) and what it can do to people, sometimes they genuinely believe that their families are better off without them.

No matter what a legend is no longer and Im really sad about that.
