I hear you. He has to live with this. I think when he did it he was out of control. But life catches up to you. 2 people are dead. He is living with that. Absolutely no winners. I struggle with this kind of thing. I have not been a saint all my life. I live with that. I sold my car to stop my stupidity. Every day i read and see such poor human skills. I am by no means perfect. I do think his conscious is aware of his actions. Let's hope this action saves lives going forward. We cannot fix what is done.

As you say most people aren't saints but in this day and age you have so many alternatives... UBER for example. If he had been RESPONSIBLE he wouldn't face the jail sentence and a lot of lives would be very different....

Unfortunately this happens to be true.

(reduced sentence?)

Yup. Happened in the case of a friend of mine. Prosecution had a good case, got a ‘fair’ sentence, but driver appealed and got off with a fine, no jail time. Absolute disgrace. His personal circumstances counted more in the end than those of the family including two small children left behind.

Yes, see this happen all too often.

But I sincerely hope this drunkard  goes down.

A litlle off the topic but still very relevent, given it is the M4.  A whole bunch of billboards went up with road safety (No Drink and Drive) message on recently.  Apparently the deal was when they were not being rented by advertisers, they would carry road safety messages.  Now one of the main ones over the road has been changed to a World Cup Beer ad!  I got so annoyed I can't even remeber what beer it is.  Plus there are a few as you head up to Gateway with whisky ads too!  What a joke!

A bit of a conundrum this one. Advertising alcohol on billboards is not illegal and advertising alcohol on a highway billboard does not necessarily infer any association with drinking and driving. I can see the connection and get your point, but I never thought of it that way. All I can say is that I cannot wait until self driving vehicles are the norm as even sober people can drive recklessly, but at least a computer doesn't get drunk, have emotional issues or behaves recklessly.

I am in the ad business so understand your point.  My issue is that the "deal" that was "struck" to allow these boards to be erected in the first place was to carry road safety messages, particularly "drink/drive" and "texting" awareness campaigns.  The fact that its is one of the Don't drink and drive messages was removed and replaced by the beer ad is what I find laughable.

Durban motorist Omesh Ramnarain, convicted of killing two cyclists after he crashed into them on the M4 leading out of Durban in February 2016, was given a 10-year prison sentence on Friday.

Reading that article it seems all to likely the sentence will be reduced on appeal, Judge even said he was making an example of the perp, one of the first lines of call the appeal will address.

At least I'm assuming the guy has been financially annihilated with the legal costs and is currently stuck in jail, he's feeling it.

I see this guy was granted  R30k bail pending his appeal and that his family is offering R10k for information on what happened in the early hours of the morning on the 7 February surely if he was sober and driving within the legal speed limits he would have been able to  give an accurate account of what happened also he would have had ample time to avoid hitting the two cyclist's this just tells me that he was either drunk or distracted by something,I think once again the officials that attended the scene stuffed up there is no good excuse for this incident when you are behind the wheel of a car your focus and attention must be totally on your driving and the road ahead no excuse lock him up.

Hope they aren't trying to "fish" for other cyclists who are keen on the R10k to bat for his team and quite literally throw the two other riders under the bus - just for money. Hope the rider stick together.
