YT Bikes in S.A

I think most insurers will insure for replacement value. My bikes are all insured for replacement.

BUT I think what Sidewinder is asking is can he link that replacement value to a Euro price, in stead of phoning his insurer after every Zuma-ism to preempt how his bike's rand value is about to rocket.

This. Since insuring my bike in july, it has grown in value by about 50%...WTF.

I totally agree with Headshot!

That post about YT in SA on FB got me excited for nothing.

It's just crazy. There is this buffet of awesome enduro bikes in the world,  but South Africans can basically only afford the Giants (trance, reign)....just.

I sometimes think I was born in the wrong hemisphere!! I'm just effing pissed about this.

I dunno hey... there are PLENTY of Specialized and S-Works Enduros rolling around. Not to mention quite a few Bronsons and Nomads.

Seems some many South Africans can still justify these prices.

well, no - we can't. The YT's are actually CHEAPER than the comparative giants at the current exchange rate!

Yes, the giants in the country were brought in when the ZAR was sliiiiightly less retarded, but new shipments will have to show adjustment to take in the new rates of exchange. Which means that they'll be more expensive than the comparative YT.

EG: A Reign 2 is $ 3,450 retail, and SA follows that almost to the T. At today's exchange, that translates to R 54,703. And it's specced under the YT Capra AL Comp.

So we're screwed...

I know, I know.

But have you seen the prices on those? I think there is only a small crowd who's got the moola to fork out those prices.

ya as I said in another thread earlier today.

No more new bikes for me and I may even need to cut back and the AM bike will probably be the first to go as servicing the thing costs 2x as much as a R300 000 car and that is when nothing is broken

Prices are doff now. A Nomad or Bronson Frame and shock now retail for about R53k ...

Its stupidity.

At that price the YT's are still "good value for money"

But its unfortunately out of the reach of most of us.

I predict a buyers market in the 2nd hand trade now

Don't you mean a sellers market as the seller is definitely going to get buyers and can therefore ask a descent price for the goods vs having to drop to stupid pricing levels just to try and sell the goods?

Yes - sorry  ..... that ......

But that being said - although the 2nd hand market may boom, you may still have to drop your prices - (I didnt get nearly what Jo's Juliana was worth 2nd hand), but I suppose that also depends on the bike - If its a niche brand and size etc you probably will have to let it go cheap. .... If its something everyone wants .... then you have a better chance of getting its market -related 2nd hand value

All I can say is...I thank my lucky stars on pulling the trigger on full new bike in may last year. specced it with top of the pops pike rct3 and monarch rc3 debonair + stealth reverb.
