Waiting with bated breath for the EMP to be approved so I can start riding the pipe tracks an Lions head/ Signal hill.

And the "R500" ... the trail that veers of left at the start of "Pat's Track" and goes around the Lions Head......I have "heard" that it is a really nice trail to ride

It would seem that when the wheels start to turn they just keep gaining momentum! Constant emails for progress reports are being sent out by SANParks and I even got a reminder a few days ago in the form of comparing my "asap" with theirs. Turns out I owed them a some comments on the proposed signage..

mind = blown.

Meeting on the 15th to review the comments and responses. Nearly there people!!

Hi all...The lower half of the trail along the freeway is getting a little muddy...and the little river below the Tokai park entrance has flooded some of the tar trail.

On a more alarming note...there is someone pulling out the trail route markers I hammered in the one at the new entrance to the meadow again this morning.Maybe the mischievous baboons can't wait to start vandalizing the Tokai trail markers and have moved down to the greenbelt for some fun...I'd better get the word out to them that the trail builders will be starting up there this weekend.

It was a matter of time and I'm willing to bet these baboons are from the lower reaches of the mountain and have evolved to walk on two feet.

The Tokai troop can only read and write.. don't ask.

Hi all ,

This section of the trail is getting particularly muddy the water is draining onto the trail from the higher ground and bordering properties.so the path is taking a beating with riders in affect widening the trail looking for drier lines.

I'm looking for 2 sections of that heavy duty blue pipe 180-200 mm and about 2 meters in length.

I'll go and dig them in so they can channel the runoff across the trail.

Has anybody got some pieces to donate?

Also I put in a request on the city council site for them to lower the kerbs at the road crossing Firgove way...seen a few youngsters battling at this crossing.(havn't recieved any feedback )

Cheers H

Want to ride this route later today, where does one start?  I have a rough idea of WHERE the greenbelts are, but not sure of a good place to start, and then is it sufficiently marked?

Happy to even buy the pipe required above and deliver as a thank you.

Hi Simon Quite a few alternative starting points..You can park at peddlers on the bend and then do the two loops up and down ,the route is quite clearly signposted but saying this some of the signs have been removed of late...

So from peddlers you go along the sandy road past the Stables..right  across the little bridge across  and it will lead you all the way up to the top of southern cross drive

the bottom loop is across the tar road in front of peddlers and you can continue and do a loop around Tokai lower park.

Id offer to give you a tour but i've just dropped my bike off for a service ...can do next week.

Thanks for the offer on the blue pipe if i don't get some pieces pasela..I'll check out buying some

Trails are holding up pretty well  despite the weather. There is a new piece of track on the r/h side down Rhodes drive from the dirt jumps to the next tar road intersection going down the hill. Pretty soft still but someone has been busy and its good to be away from the traffic either up or down that busy road. If it sees a few more bikes it will get better.

A few observations. Using a bell is no guarantee of success. People with their backs to you don't always show that they have heard your bell or only wake up at the last minute. They generally then jump out of the way - only they don't actually know which way to jump. Maybe there should be a "when you hear a bike bell, hold your line" instruction to pedestrians?

get's worse when pedestrian's are wearing earphones at the same time ... basing this observation on my daily commutes.

Saw that this weekend.  Is it 'legal'?  There is also a bit of a trail going from the berms at the top around to the dirt jumps...It'd be nice to have a bit extra to ride offroad...

Is the cork tree trail still off limits?

There is no signage at the Southern Cross Drive side, and it looks so inviting...

Its on the verge of the road and not on private property. Its also not a green belt and I think the track has been created by bikers, nobody else. So the question is actually - is it legal for bipeds or just bikes? The latter only I recon :-)

It is very inviting and it is great fun - proper natural rock garden 2/3 down, a drop off into a stream if you so inclined and a small jump through a gap in a fallen tree....

You know all of that from walking it, right ?
