Me as well.

Look at her face, though. Doesn't quite look like her stress is being relieved... more like a muscle is going

The only time I'd end up in that position is if I'd fallen.....

Ive had my back issue since mid Nov 15. I go to physio once a week, and do stretches. Feeling a lot better now and back on the bike, but can still feel it. It gets worse when I have to sit for a while or drive longer distances. Posture plays a big role, and is probably what caused the problem to begin with.

Thats what i am thinking. It started when i could hardly even move in bed and had roll out the lower back was so stiff.

Then agter some painkillers and heat gels got a bit better and then my hip strated to get some sensation and then my leg.

It has not gone away and is still there. How to i get rid of it or unpinch the nerve if it is that?

does running count?

I do 5 minute stretch before and 5 minute stretch after

hamstrings, ITB , glutes and quads

When (which is not often) I go running, I do the same.

The last I heard is that, for rugby and cricket, a lot of activation is required, and a few static ones as well. So with the kids I do a combination of these, as well as warm-up (easy jogs, sprints).

But it seems that the consensus is "NOPE" for riding?

I have to stretch. If I don't I'm fubar for days. That comes from having a back op at 16 with lots of nerve damage and muscle imbalances.

Sometimes stretch sessions are longer than the ride itself. I have a routine which I can almost do in my sleep by now. It's not really fun but my body feels so much better.

Cycling really shortens the hamstrings. I wonder how many of you can even touch your toes?

I wonder how many pulled a hammie or strained their back trying to touch their toes now ????

Normally if I stretch my hamstrings I use a short towel around my foot and hold on both ends pulling on the towel trying to keep my back straight.... Find this works well without placing strain on my back or anywhere else

I've got long legs so touching my toes is difficult

I learned the hard way that stretching is SUPER important.

Maybe not if you do 10-20km rides, but definitely for longer rides.

After years of cycling I started running and developed slight pain in my knee. Went to the physio and it turns out my hamstrings are too short.

Now I have to stretch a lot, and this could have been avoided if I never neglected stretching early on.

The toe-touch-stretch-test is not the best way to test for tightness in the hammies. Some people can touch the floor with flat hands and still have too tight hammies - proportional length and suppleness in the torso could make stretching easier.

Therefore the towel / stretch-band method:

Normally if I stretch my hamstrings I use a short towel around my foot and hold on both ends pulling on the towel trying to keep my back straight.... Find this works well without placing strain on my back or anywhere else

This is much more isolating than the toe-touching way. Pointing your foot inwards or outwards also help you stretch different parts of the hamstring area.

The first test at my biokineticist (about 15 years ago) found that I was about 10cm off touching toes - seated on the floor. After she stretched me to breaking point over the next 4 weeks I could push 30cm past my toes.
