what wrong with having a backup, if it will just sit there and only be used whenever really needed then why not. Just because you might not like the idea it doesnt mean others wont.

Once you on 32 x 40 and it is getting too steep to pedal, is it not faster just to push - if you on a 29er and pedalling slowly at 60-70 rpm, you only doing 6km/h. One can walk faster.

Ditch the 28,30,32,34 and be a man with a 36t NW!

I am on a 36t upfront and 11-40t on the rear, still need te see the climb I can't ride out.

Perhaps in Centurion bru.

it probably is, but you feel more satisfied if you can pedal it dont you

Tracy Moseley did this for the whistler enduro last year.

so did anne caroline chausson. I guess those world champs need to train harder, according to our own armchair champs ;)

Would be interesting know why the finger as opposed to an FD. Maybe they did it to keep up appearances of a 1x system for the sake of their sponsors? anyway, its been done by ppl who can actually ride, and it helps them. so why not us plebs?

Bring your Mtb with when you come down for the CTCT, I want to go and introduce you to one or two climbs in the area.

Ps. Be sure to pack your climbing legs in.

You do. But sometimes when I am huffing and puffing and pushing and pulling trying to get up a super steep slippery bit, and some guy walks past me pushing in an efficient, relaxed fashion, I think "what the hell am I doing"

6 km/h?....Not up a hill too steep to ride while carrying a bike

Nope, not up a hill that is too steep to ride. But if you going to go to the lengths of using 28x40, you going to be going 5km/h. It is really faster to walk and you don't get muck on your fingers trying to change from one front ring.

But a front derailleur weighs next to nothing. You may as well stick in on.

So you're dropping the shifter and the front der. It's 2x faking 1x. Silly exercise if you ask me.

By riding a too easy gear you become inefficient, by that I mean you battle to balance and you get wheel spin. If there is an opstacle in front of you, you are going to battle to get over it. I'm sure the manufactures have taken all these gearing options into account.

because oval rings wont work with shifter unless you buy RotorQ which are expensive.

want the advantage of Oval rings but with the backup of a super granny

What is the advantage of oval rings again?

Sorry... wrong thread I guess ;)

I would assume they ran NW for chain retention on the timed stages. Obviously you cant shift off of a narrownwide
