USN Cup #2; Avianto... a muddy affair?????

Was out at Avianto last week and the trails were very wet especially on the Eastern side.

Given the incremental rainfall over the last couple of days I am concerned it will be a complete mudfest resulting in lots of bottlenecks and mechanical issues on bikes.

Has anyone been out there over the last week and has a view as to how swampy the place is?

PS: Know this is a flaming Friday issue but am not too keen on mud riding

It all depends on how much rain we get tonight.

Know a lot of guys arent keen to ruin bikes in the mud

YR says 8.9mm.

This is now the 3rd thread for this event...

Plus...it is mountain biking. If you are worried about mud, you should consider a different sport

Now I know not to wear that white jersey tomorrow... good thread!

Absolutely +1

On a serious note, if it is muddy I will also be worried about my bike taking a hammering. I usually carry an extra water bottle that I use just to spray down the derailleur and clean as much mud off as i can during the race....helps keep the wear to a minimum.

50km in the mud isnt too bad, just sucks when you have replace brake pads and cables after a proper mud fest....anyone remember the Silverstar MTB Challenge?  :whistling:

last time the missus was caught in the mud there, I had to wash the bike 3 times before I could see the paint below.

So no-one has ridden there during the week and has an update as to how muddy it is at the moment?

Just got back from riding the trails around and next to Avianto and also Muldersdrift. Its wet and the ground is very soft but certainly not a mud fest....I can't obviously comment on tomorrow's route but was close enough!
