Matt Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 The following was posted on the Table Mountain Bikers Facebook page: On behalf of a friend, he and his family had the following experience at Hemel n Aarde Hermanus yesterday - At 2 pm this Friday, 25th March 2016, mountain bikers were attacked on the Hemel en Aarde single track in Hermanus 500 m from the start. A tall, 6ft man dressed in only a loin cloth jumped onto the path facing the riders holding up a stick/spear. The 2 cyclists in the front, a mother and teenage son, managed to turn and ride away with the attacker chasing behind. The 3rd approaching cyclist then also turned and the attacker proceeded to chase him. All three managed to escape. Soon following, two 20 year old students, ending their ride on the same section of single track, were intercepted by the same attacker and were mugged of a watch and cycling tools. The 10111 emergency police call centre expressed that they would not offer assistance. Three further cyclists who had been warned of the threat entered the single track with the intent of chasing the attacker off to protect further vulnerable riders returning on the track. The attacker again blocked the path of these cyclists and drew a long knife. One cyclist was hit on the head and helmet broken. He held up his bicycle in defense which was crushed by the attacker in the struggle. The attacker was pushed down the hill. The attacker then managed to escape climbing up out of the valley. Uni Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Sjoe scary. The guy is obviously not mentally well, not wise to approach him.10111 only respond after the fact, sad but true - if it hasn't happened yet, you're not a priority.
BenReaper Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Sounds like a horrible experience to those involved.Like UNI says the guy sounds mentally unstable,hope somebody catches him (aparantly not 10111) before he causes any serious harm to innocent people.

Headshot Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Rode there the next morning equipped with a can of mace. All quiet however and many runners and cyclists out. Perhaps the cold weather put him off :-). Agree it sounds as if the guy was probably not well in the head, or maybe on tik?
