Converting a Schrader valve rim to Presta valve - Tubeless

Hubbers,

I've bought my son a new Titan Cruz 650b MTB.....his first "real" MTB.....upgraded from a cheapy 24".

Bike came with the standard 650B Titan rims with tubes. Rims have Schrader valves (tubes).  Is it possible to convert these rims to tubeless, with the normal tubeless valves (Presta - removable core)?  Will the tubeless Presta valves fit in the "bigger" Schrader holes?

Or, is there an alternative way to convert these rims to tubeless?

I had essentially the same question, but I found schrader type tubeless valves here.

I still need to order, but comparing the pictures of these versus the presta valves I suspect the presta ones will be too small for the schrader holes (or, might JUST fit, but who knows if it will seal well).

I have done it using some Schrader valves I got from a local Automotive mag wheel supplier. They look similar to this:

I had to "profile" the part of the valve that sits inside the rim with a grinder to allow the tire bead to still fit in. Wasn't difficult though and works 100%. I suppose it will depend on how wide your rims are.

The ones I got have a much nicer looking nut for securing. I will take a picture tonight if I get a chance.

If you can get a tubeless schrader valve to fit the rim profile that is 1st prize.  Otherwise ask your bike shop for a valve nut from an old Mavic tubeless valve.  This has a profile ridge on one side which just fills the gap between a presta valve and the schrader rim.  Some other makes have a nut that will fit as well.

Had the same question, and decided to go ahead to convert my wife's bike to Presta tubeless yesterday.  And did the old people's bikes as well (6 in total done all from S to P)

It works well.  My dad just wanted a sealing strip from Joes on their bikes, but just went the rim strip and presta on the wife's bike.

So far it is holding.  Even used the Titan tyres as we are a bit short on funds to spend R499 per tyre on her bicycle.

So it can be done. Yes...

Presta valves are k@k

Well I would not drill my rims just to put in schreder valves but , yes they break waaayyyyy to easy and aren't cheap either

@Francois,

OK, so you have used Presta tubeless valves directly on the Schrader rim?   How is the Titan tyres holding up with the sealant?
