This thread is about "us" (cyclists) vs "them" (motorists)

In the court of public opinion, it's ALL relevant.

In a similar note, WE are ALL viewed as an amorphous mass of "cyclists" by your average vehicle driver.  One bad apple does spoil the whole damn bunch, unfortunately for US (as we don't have 2 tons of steel, bumpers, airbags etc. to protect us in an accident).

I know that I sometimes find myself morphing between the two states of driver vs rider.

Like driving in my car and I see a cyclist misbehave I am like: look at that idiot now...

And when I am on my bike and a motorist misbehaves, I lose the other half of my mind.

Those same motorists who endanger cyclist lives by choosing to drive badly e.g overtaking another vehicle over a solid line

Or speeding in residential areas, or driving under the influence?

Yes it must be them seeing a cyclist jumping a red light that made them want to commit those moving violations.......

Why do you love to play the man? Play the incident. Other incidents should be dealt with separately on merit.

This thread is about dangerous driving on Chapmans peak. Not about slip streaming trucks.

It's not about playing the man. It's about keeping our side as clean as we can. Every bit of goodwill helps.

Let us be honest; we have all been here before where you get stuck behind a slowass driver. And you know you shouldn't, but you overtake anyway because it is frustrating as fark doing 50km an hour in an 80 zone.

Sure, we convince ourselves that when we do it, we don't put anyone's life at risk but our own. Although I am sure your loved ones will feel different.

Anyway, we all agree the oke in the Geely is a dwis.

So let us not be dwisses and fool ourselves that we are above dwis level.

You can't slipstream behind a truck and post it on youtube to brag to your friends and then lose your mind about a dude in a Geely.

Let us keep our kant clean.

There is a big difference between suicide and murder!

Chappies is like "my ride" and I am there very often. Seeing a car overtake like that is not all that uncommon, although that was a particularly close one. I have observed several things in this regard:

  • It more often seems to be business vehicles doing this, bakkies, panel vans. In other words, people with somewhere to go that get stuck behind tourists taking their time, taking in the view. They get impatient and do stupid things.
  • It often happens that they totally underestimate the speed of an oncoming bicycle. Especially when you are going downhill. They just have no clue how fast a bike can go.
  • Very few cars stick to the 40km/h speed limit. Very few cyclists stick to the speed limit when going down. I often see riders tailgating cars on the way down.
  • When I have my bright white flashing front light on the bike, this kind of thing does not happen nearly as often as without the light.
  • People seem to think Chappies belong to the cyclists and they forget that you still have to be vigilant and ride defensively.

My 2c for what it's worth.

Ride safely this weekend!

So just to confirm?

6 pages ago the idiot mentioned in the topic was the motorist(I presume?). Has the idiot in the topic now changed to the cyclist with the camera?

Or are the both idiots?

I'm lost, its Friday before a long weekend, this is an awesome thread.

Neither, apparently, but both their actions were idiotic.

Paintballing law-breakers should be legalized and encouraged... :whistling:  ^_^

[edit] - Patches, you got me. I was trying to be all sensible and logical, since the last time I got "lynched" for threatening to paintball..

Paint balling only? Don't let me make a suggestion...

Not quite, for the cyclist yes but for the Geely driver no.

If you drive a Geely, you are being punished already. Shame, now I actually feel sorry for the guy. He was probably rushing home just so that he could get out of the thing....

It's like riding a merida :whistling:

All animals are equal. But some are more equal than others.

In other words we are horribly offended by the motorist as at one point we are trying to get his registartion details. We want to find this oke and hang him.

We are also offended by the cyclist...Damn idiot...but what kind of helmet is he wearing? Is that TT bars? He must be using some serious gears.

You are right, some peoples actions are idiotic. But which ones?

So if you do something that could kill you but doesn't and then someone else does something dumb that does kill you that person shouldn't be punished.

Cool logic.

Its only you that mention the punishment aspect of someone that did something wrong (as he should be)... might want to tone down your view on your own reading logic skills
