Transformation to single speed

So I have a Dj bike (gt chucker3.0) it was stolen but got it back last week. After service I removed my rear shifter because it is messed up. Im keeping my gear at the heaviest at back for now.

 

Im want to transform the gears into single speed. What do I need and what would you recommend?

Single speed conversion kit, should be available at your lbs. You remove your cassette and derailer and put on a cog at the back with necessary spacers you get with the singlespeed kit, and also then put on a chain tensioner. Very simple operation. Shouldn't cost more than R400 to get decent single speed parts.

Thanks alot ill go chek it out. How necessary is is front and back brakes? My one is broken so can I roll just with a back brake?

Rapidé SingleMinded® WB Cogs have a 7mm wide base to spread the load on the cassette body and prevent gouging. Available in 16, 17, 18 and 20 tooth profiles. "What does this mean and what do I choose?"

It means there is more surface area for the cog to use so it does not "***-op" your freewheel

 

choose the cog depending on what front chainring you have divide the front chainring teeth by the rear the ratio should be about 2.0 -1.8 for jump bikes

Which front ring should I use? The bigger one is 32 teeth and small one 22 if I counted correctly. Do I take the one off that I do not use then?

just beware, did a few conversions for friends who were running a regular ramped chain ring (both rings new) and they purchased the full kit including the SS chain.

 

the chain skips on the ramped chainring under load. fitted 9spd chains for them and the combo is silent and secure.

 

I am using the SS chains on my MTB, but in conjunction with a non ramped and SS specific chain ring ... no issues here.

 

I zakar, get the rear cog size you need and one up and down in size if your budget allows and you are not certain RE which no. tooth cog you require. The pricing is such that it is not a rip off and it gives you options on your gear ratio.

 

It has also been known that a whole new SS bike can be built up around a spare SS cog....or so "I have heard"

I zakar, I have the exact same bike and did the SS conversion just last month.

Used the rapide kit but had to run a 18T at the rear to stop some slippage when pedalling. Using the SSspecific chain. Works brilliantly.

Using the standard front ring, think it's a 32T. Will later get a NW but doubt it's necessary.
