Have you cut it yet?

No......I just have one query left - some installation manuals say NOT to let the topcap rest on the stem, but to rather have a small spacer (3-5mm) in between?

"There should always be a 5mm spacer between the top of the stem and the stem cap (see Figure 1, item D). The five-star stem cap should never rest directly on the stem. This cannot be emphasized enough." - Spez

I have been running my top-cap on my stem for nearly 3 years now with 3 different bikes and no issues so far .....one being a spez epic in 2013-2014

Allright.... I'm gonna do it.

But first, I just want to check if I'm heading in the right direction - please critique my DIY planz. For example sake, I'll be cutting 2cm.

  1. I can move the starnut down by 2cm (there are loads of threads on how to do this)
  2. Then I cut that ish with 2 cm
  3. Then I assemble everything, but WITHOUT any spacers - topcap directly on the stem.
  4. Super aero setup with many Strava KOMsTM .

FYI, I'm using a Spez stem with a shim and an offset topcap.

No idea what that's about...loads of new bikes come with the topcap directly on the stem. I've always run it like that and aside from my steerer tube splitting down the length a few times I've never had any issue with this setup.
