Aah so you know how its organized then Myles? Where do you have to be in the results to be invited?

I don't know. But Rupert alluded to it in the comments you posted. Same as it was last time. If you want to be invited, the easiest way is to ensure you're in say the top 40 or whatever riders...

So someone like Andrew Savage or Martin Zietsman would be shoe-ins, whereas you or me or someone else wouldn't be unless we could improve to such a degree.

As he said - it is "something to aspire to"

Ah well I took that comment of his to be patronizing in the context. Maybe I just need to change my outlook...

“Watch the gopro's of the stages - they are rocky and long, thats all.

You are very much mistaken.

GoPro cameras have a tremendous field of view, which has a terrific flattening/masking effect, numbing the shape terrain. It is not the choice unit of analysis for technicality, but a guide.

When riders in or around the Enduro top 15 standings, start worrying – and consider not actually doing stages, I think the level of terrain challenge is beyond what most people would like coping with.

That’s said, all rode, and conquered last year. It’s very big terrain. That image of Rika slipping off the rock step. Even the best can get caught out in an instant on those trails.

Surely, the Enduro race rankings are a fairest mechanism of inviting? I would think so.

Or if you have shown proficiency in big terrain.

Or if you’re capable of producing great trail snacks and are willing to carry them in numbers enough to share with everyone else.

Lance I own a go pro as do many people on this forum. I have also ridden at Ezelfontein and hiked around those mountains. There is a big difference between the Ezelfontein trail vids and something shot in the Alps...Lets not get too carried away here...

Myles probably fits that last category - let him in please.

If I bring my DaKine backpack, then yes. That thing is cavernous.

And jellies / billies are only if I want a little bit more than water to carry me through an event.

best MTB experience to date, was a camp with my wife and daughter at Sandriff, they would be lazing in the river, and be lazing on the trails...

planning on doing the same, come warmer weather for Ezelfontein...

Let me know when you do it again

So many sour grapes and no red wine?!

Jokes aside, I spoke to one of the most skillful riders I know who rode it last year and he is busy cleaning the poop from his big boy pants just thinking about it.

Guys are proud of their event, stoked with the trails and social media and instant gratification is the zeitgeist. If you want an invite, ride some gnar, compete in the Enduro series about and perform and you will be on the card.

If I wasn't better mannered I would tell you to go and change your nappy and stop throwing a tantrum just because but I was taught better.

Instead I would suggest that you lighten up and if you want to be included, first you need to include yourself.

Jewbacca, thanks for the advice. Taken with a large pinch of salt unless it worked for you of course :-)

Think I'll go and watch the event and clap for the participants instead...

The piketberg isn't more expensive than a W2W f example considering the amount of single track involved. That 45km will take a fit ish rider 3hrs.

A includes food from Friday night to sunday lunch.

This is in my opinion going to become the next sani/w2w race

very tempting and a small field (100 teams) to boot. A bit steep for me though, but I'm sure they will easily sell all the entries.

Ezelenduro is a test of fitness and skill. Last year I felt like in pinball bouncing around.

Sounds great - just like an MTB race should be!

Ezelenduro was awesome, awesome, chicken out on the last ss due to a tumble on SS4.

Bite the bullet if you can for the Piketberg might not get in next year, word of great races travel fast.

hahaha I'm glad you can see the funny side.

I am still hoping for a sneaky invite but if not, I will just go and thrash about at Jonkers with a giant smile on my face.
