Looking to buy MTB for 7 year old girl. (cant do a fitting as it is a birthday present).  I know that a 20" is the correct size for the age, however a 24" inch will save the upgrade in a year from now.  Is a 24" to big or can it work?  (10.5" frame)  Thx.

I am buying my now 6 (soon to be 7) year old boy a 24" for his birthday as he has outgrown his 20".  Depends on how tall your kid is...

Just upgraded my twin 8 year olds onto 24' titans. My boys are about average height but not super tall and they couldn't have ridden a 24' comfortably a year ago. Personally I would rather get your kid onto a 20' and have them more confident than letting them "grow" into a big bike.

My 4yr old is on a 20" 7speed Muna mtb, and killing it.

Geez dude how tall is he? My 8 yr old daughter is on a 20 inch and 4 yr old on a 16 inch...but he is a manic do tricks.

Yeah, he's about a half head to head taller than all his classmates,..for some arb reason,..I'm only 1,84m and my wife 1,68......☺

Could be my Grandad side,..all 6,4ft-6,7ft+

my 7 year old, ave height, is on a 24" Momsen. Been riding it for a year and is now very comfortable on it. Started racing this year, he would not stand a chance on a 20"

Ja, My kids both made the jump up to 24" at about age 8.

See it all the time in the shops...maybe make a plan with your LBS to have a 20" and 24" option available and make the visit there a surprise? Kids loved being fussed about in a shop, and watching a tweak or two being done to their new ride by the shop's mechanic before they get to take it home.

Really depends how tall the kid is. My (almost) 8 year old son is on a 27.5" x-small. Tried him on a 24" but the seat was almost at the max height adjustment, so would have had to upgrade within a year. The 27.5 is a bit big but he rides it confidently. He is quite tall though.

Also girls just generally don't have the confidence or natural ability boys have as well. And as for my 8yr girl is shorter as well. The right size bike buys them the confidence that is invaluable . Even if you have to upgrade in yr or so's time..

Just my thoughts .
