Least favourite stretch of road...

Was thinking today as I headed past pollsmoor how much I dread that section of road... From after the second circle (heading towards constantia) till after tokai forest.

Road not in great condition in patches and no shoulder, but just generally not an enjoyable stretch for me!

Made me wonder about others and the sections they hate?

There is also a stretch about 30km out of grahamstown heading towards cradock - dead straight for about ten km, always felt like the wind was in your face and the road was slightly uphill no matter which direction u went. Tar made up of rough EDT (energy draining tar).

Unfortunately both those stretches are pretty hard to avoid!!

Agreed on that Pollsmoor bit, it is just too narrow, too busy and too rough. Cars are always going too fast and passing to close for comfort.

Up Suikerbossie from Hout Bay side. I live at the top, so I'm always dead tired when I get there. In summer it's usually really hot. The exhaust fumes are super strong. And even though the speed limit is 60km/h there is a lot of traffic speeding passed.

The criteria seems to be road surface and space, so the coastal road from Muizenburg to Fish Hoek should make the list.

Agree with the Pollsmoor Road - lost a set of American Classics in a pothole some time ago.

Right now I'd also add Greenpoint Main Rd, only because I was involved in an accident there. :(

Don't ride past Pollsmoor for that exact reason.

The M4 heading towards Fish Hoek is a 'mare because of the traffic works, so if I ride out that way I make a right up Boyes drive and ride back along the spine but a lot depends on what I want out of the ride. Also the stretch of the M4 heading from Fish Hoek to Simon's Town is a ghastly one if it's a windy day. You're forever teeth into it especially in summer. Only once passing the Train station in Simon's Town do you get a bit of respite from it.

I think this is going to get some interesting responses Rhodent!

For road surface, its difficult to find a worse road than Fairway in Dutban. More patches, rough spots and holes than actual road.

Agree with that.

And Tara road on the bluff. Been patched and filled a million times. I now completely avoid it.

Magalies: Between the Wimpy and Spar, only time I touch tar really but its a dodgy stretch (and only about 600m).

A few weeks back an out of control truckshot past me by about 1m before crashing at the bottom of the hill, we have an accident every couple of weeks on that section. Be warned if you sit at Wimpy!

Hout Bay side of Constantia Nek going up and Rhodes drive Constantia Nek to Kirstenbosch top gate.

Avoid like the plague except before 5am in summer!

Any one with a block headwind South Easter.......

Main Road Woodstock when the Southeaster is howling. When you are protected by the buildings all is well, and then suddenly when you cross a side street, you get sideswiped across the road by a massive Bakkies Botha tackle, mostly into the path of a bus. It's the only place ever where I stopped, got off the road bike and walked to the next protected bit, muggers and dodgy characters or not.
