@Cyclingmajor....Like the guys said- take it easy if this is  your first one-about 50% of the field is heading off to their first one. Dont overthink it, train right and take the day as it comes.

^This, take it really easy until the turn around on the cycle, if you feel strong you can push a bit there as its mostly downhill. Just dont burn too many matches early on.

bunkers/turnberry really bites if you overcook the bikeleg (speaking from experience)

you can say it all you want, no one is going to listen. People told me the same thing and i still did it emptied my match box on the bike leg my first time. You learn from experience...well you are suppose to, but when you see you are behind your target time people start pushing not taking conditions (wind, heat, etc) into consideration.

I'm not too concerned about the cycle it's the run that scares me.

When I did my last half-distance tri at Sun City this year the wheels came off properly during the run.

Expect a tough run and bunkers hill is a killer, many walk it. At least when you come down bunkers for the second time you can enjoy that you don't have to do it again... although the beachfront to the finish is also a bit of a grind... hopefully you have found your running legs and an enjoy the last few kms to the finish!

The crowd and the atmosphere they create is great in EL and pulls you through those tough times. tAlos Also the run in sun city is harder than the one in EL

hi all!! first timer here, what a great thread!

I have a few questions and wondering if anyone can help me:

1. Realistically, how much time would having a trisuit save off your changes from the cycle to the run? (i'm assuming you are wearing your trisuit/cycle shorts and shirt under your wetsuit)

2. If water is not cold enough to warrant compulsory wetsuits, is it still worth wearing a wet suit? Does it help with a quicker swim?

3. when is more or less the optimal time to start tapering?

thanks so much!

1 a Minute at most. I wear tri shorts under the wetsuit and put a cycling top on in T1 which I keep on for the rest of remainder of the event

2 yes wear the wetsuit, it helps with buoyancy

3 there was a post earlier on tapering

As promised, I picked up the new toy a few days ago and here is the proof... :-)

I am changing a few things on it, as the extension bars are a little too short, but this is what I will hopefully be ridding in EL...

Thanks for all the help and this thread!!!

Thanks Mike...

Got it from a guy here on the hub.  He made a bit on an error by advertising only the frame (in the photos), but the price was actually for the whole bike.
