Fake Ritchey bars are rubbish

Check this out, one little fall and the handlebar snaps like a twig!

Anyone else had bad experiences with Ritchey carbon products?

Dont think you should blame the brand as a whole, you probably just got one of a few bad apples.

How many bikes are out there running Ritchey bars without problems? They are standard issue on some Scott's aswel, I have a mate that owns a Scott Spark Premium, he weighs 125kg's and is a really aggressive ryder, hiz Ritchey bars have been holding up for almost two years now.

See if you can get it warranted or change to alu for peace of mind.

Have had with seat post but suspect it was damaged by frame edges digging into it at seat tube clamp. Gone back to ALU !! Those few grams don't make that much difference !!

Thomson.....the best thing since sliced bread.... :whistling:

KCNC, they have alu bars, seatposts and stems that are extremely light and durable compared to their carbon counterparts and at a fraction of the price of carbon.

Inside one end of the bar, look for a hologram sticker

If there is one, then it is genuine

Then contact the distributors Cyctec Didtributors

Thank you Shamus. Naturally I feel quite aggrieved that a top of the range product should snap like a dry twig, so I will certainly check if it is genuine or not and update later tonight.

The branding on the snapped bar is very similar to the branding on Ritchey's alloy mtb bar...

http://www.evobikes.co.za/components/handlebars-mtb/ritchey-comp-2-x-720mm-flatbar.html

The Comp bar (on the evobikes site) is correct

Each level of ritchey product, Comp, WCS, WCS Carbon and Superlogic, have slightly different logos.

I guess so that you mix the right level of products together

The branding on the broken Superlogic Carbon bars is very different from the Official branding

So what is the actual life expectancy on a set of road carbon handle bars?

1 yr? 2 yrs?

Could be a month if you hit a pothole and you on the drops   :whistling:

not much more to say than fail catastrophically....emphasis on catastrophically.

Alas alu isn't always safe... A mate tried to hand me half his alu bar at 50kph when he stood up to chase the break (break hahahaha). It was all fine and dandy until the gear and brake cables went taught then he tried to hand me his front wheel - not a great idea at said 50kph.

He was proper sore afterwards. Nice clean alu break with zero warning.

Personally I'm all for alu on bars, stem and seat pillar. I think it's safer (but not always safe!).

I dunno hey. I have deity carbon bars on my mtb. They are strong. I have had 2 heavy crashes with them and they still good.

I'm pretty sure a Deity bar would be a far more densely woven version of plastic than any of the weight weenie Ritchey stuff. Albeit heavier but stronger.
