Interesting topic.

I am a Owner of a WattBike, not the "Seller" of one.

Haven't been on a Phantom 5 so can't be a judge however seems like I must be "dumb" to own a Wattbike as a "Supplier" of Phantom refers to it as one. Apologies- refers to the phantom 3 as well as being "dumb" Wonder if the supplier sold any when it was available?

Did notice though, phantom as mentioned doesn't have computer, watt bike does, and has Wattbike app for optimum performance.

Wattbike allows u to control and manage performance output of each leg by virtue of its angle of peak force showing where your output is coming from

And how it's exerted. This allowing "dumb" people like myself to see if my power is coming at the wrong point of exertion and whether my left or right leg is giving to much.

Ever find yourself in a race and your left or right leg is hard as a rock, mmm. Wonder why

The compatibility of Zwift etc adds to the excitement of having all this at hand. Scientific, control and fun.

The Wattbike app and your profile can be used at any Virgin active- u link and off you go.

But then again- it's a "dumb" bike.

Untwist your panties, they cant be comfortable like that.

Dumb in a trainer refers to it not being able to integrate with 3rd party apps that have the ability to control resistance etc.

Conversely a smart trainer can do all of those things, its a classification not a personal attack.

Note to self- Struck a nerve with Vebee and Rocket Boy and appreciate they don't like community members to voice their opinions.

Surely your collective intellect should have deciphered by my message that don't put a competitive product down instead promote the awesome features of your own especially if you the supplier of the product itself. It adds more credibility to you and your company.

Then again, am I assuming to much based on your comments as you made it personal.

Bicycle Power - thank you. Huge respect.

For Vebee and Rocket Boy - my comment about huge respect means they more than likely understood that they should not have put another product down and didn't respond.

Instead - they promoted their offering. Well done!

The WattBike is a dumb trainer, I mean all that money and you have to manually adjust it like a 20 year exercise bike...

But really Hidayat, you missing the point here.

Clearly your supposed superior intellect was unable to decipher clearly laid out facts.

There are smart trainers as I explained before and there are non-smart trainers(dumb seems to have struck a nerve with you)

Im very happy with my smart trainer and the company that supports it locally - Bicycle Power - are second to none in terms of support.

If you are happy with your Wattbike then Im happy for you, if you arent then dont come and cry about it in a thread where someone was looking for opinions.

And my last point, Bicycle Power didnt put another product down, they simply stated the facts that differentiate the two trainers, it is up to you as to how you interpret it.

And there is your answer OP

didnt want to say it...but if you look at presence in the thread as well as their reputation its a no brainer. This is in the unlikely event that your trainer needs a service / fixing / support. My cyclops trainer has been going strong for of years now....not a single issue to date, nice to know that their distributors have my back should I need something though.

This is not true of most big brand importers in SA unfortunately. Not only trainers.  It's just another brand to be distributed, no real passion for the product or customer support which undermines some great products.

Out of interest I had had a query from a customer on a wattbike. I logged an enquiry on the distributor's website a few months ago. You know the rest.....but it does not involve me receiving a reply.

Hell you really missed the point and still insisted on grinding ahead. You know how there is a generation of cellphones termed smartphones? Well the same applies here. It is a classification. You either fulfill the criteria or not. I suspect your bike doesn't. Do you?

Penta (Medical Systems) have the rights to Wattbike in SA. They are the same company supplying Technogym equipment.

Unless you are a BIG end user like Virgin Active, you simply don't get feedback from Penta. A while ago I needed some parts replaced, after several months I ended up having to import directly from the manufacturer overseas, as the local agents just wasn't interested in my small business.

Do I like a wattbike? Yes, even thought it is a dumb trainer.

Would I buy one? Nope, support sucks!

I think it may have helped if the cycleops guy had used the correct term which is now FE-C compliant rather than dumb?

Two different things!

Wattbikes (as with many other trainers), are commonly known as 'dumb' trainers.
