That is very sad news.

 

Altitude is not to be messed with. According to the 702 news, he was complaining a day or two back of having flu like symptoms and battling with the climb. He should probably have turned back at that point. It sounds as if it was left too late. Usually descending has the desired effect. Tjhat it didn't in this case points to a delayed response to an emergency IMO. 

 

My first sons very fit looking pediatrician died on Kilimanjoro, a few months after he was born. Some people are more susceptible than others.

Oh No! What sad and shocking news!

 

I met him once or twice at W2W etc. Always friendly with a smile, which made him such a likable character.

 

Condolences to his wife and family.

Yip - an alarming number of people die on kili every year...you will battle to find stats as the govt try keep them under wraps as it will have a negative effect on tourism income
