I'm in the market for a PM for my mountain bike, Stages would be ideal since I wouldn't need to rebuild the wheel & weight saving for race days, but I'm seeing way too many for sale which is making me more skeptical. Can someone who has 1st hand experience please explain why there are so many for sale? Thanks

There are a lot of them out there - you dont get as much value from a pm on a mtb compared to one on a road bike - still worth it imo - but make sure your road bike has one first - knobblies don't work too good on trainers for some sessions.

milky, there's probably as many powertaps for sale as there are stages.

most users I've encountered seem to be happy so I don't think there's any issues.

no personal experience though.

Iam happy with mine and only selling it as I use the wattbike 3-4times a week, the only time i get out on the road is either on a saturday or a sunday but hardly ever both days hence I cant justify keeping such an expensive item when iam not really putting it to use.

yep the road bike has a powermeter, benefits for me to have pm on a MTB is to track TSS & manage fatigue.

difference between the powertap & stages is I know powertap well enough to know that they are bomb proof but know nothing about Stages.

Hi

I got a Stsges in my road bike a few years ago. Still going strong and works like a charm. Battery change every so often...

Been considering one for my MTB too, but am concerned the MTB riding is way more dynamic and won't get full value.

Would still be good for fatigue etc...

Very happy with Stages... I guess many for sale as people don't see real value in them.

Personally, has changed my road riding and training - for the better.

Hope that helps...

Very happy with my Stages. PM's became a hit and lots of people invested in expensive technology. BUT - if you don't use it properly and with some knowledge about power training it became just an expensive gadget with no benefit. I personally think most of the PM's for sale is from this category.

Power on my indoor trainer has made a huge difference. PM for the bike is an expensive investment unfortunately, but I think very worth it if you're at all serious about improving your performance.

No, sorry. I can't given an explanation why there are so many for sale, but I can explain why mine won't be for sale... It's a great unit and does what I need, and does it very well.

That said, if you bought a PM, tried it and didn't like it, it's a very $$$ piece of kit to keep hanging around to not use at all

Hope that helps
