[Event] 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour - Argus

My son was hoping for a 3h15 from 1J, but with this wind and weighing only 58kg on a CF bike, it will be a tough ask. I think he will do well coming in under 3h30, unless he finds some big riders to hide amongst.

.

I am 1J - If he pushes me up Chappies I will protect him all the way ????

Dear CTCT expo,

Forcing people to walk through the hall of cycling commercialism gone wild when all they want to do is collect their racepaks is off putting. Particularly when one is officiously shepherded by unsmiling security muppets who look like they are itching for the opportunity to unleash some aggression.

Not cool.

No thanks

how did you get this right Mamil?

We walked in through the entrance, round the track and then got to the collection point of everything and then into the commercial spenders section ? How did you get into the commercial section first ?

So everyone's asking me if I'm ready for Sunday morning and saying stuff like "have you seen the wind report?" This is me "sleeping" on Saturday night listening to the wind

I didn't - it was on the way out that I was forced to do the commercial section which I didn't want to do. After getting my racepack I turned around and walked back the way I came, around the field - I was then quite rudely steered back into the dark and dingy innards of the stadium where I struggled to find an exit.

It's just so obvious - I enjoy spending money on my hobbies - I usually know what I want to buy and spend time researching it and then I go to the retailer of my choice and get it from them. I am VERY unlikely to to buy something because I've been forced to walk past it when I don't want to. Particularly when I can feel the rude eyes of poorly trained security people scanning me to make sure of what I don't know.

I wanted to pop in and out and get my racepack - getting the pack took 4 minutes - getting out took 15.

Anyway - I walked past their food offerings and cycled back to the suburbs via my LBS where I had two cokes, a cappucino and a pastrami roll for lunch - I'd rather spend my bucks there.

Actually come to think of it - I need to stop spending my bucks there. :)

There'll never be an escape chute, Mamil

It's an expo

And there's also security considerations, I'm sure

Rather send a buddy to collect on your behalf if it chafes your b**s

We did buy matching family "fancy shorts". Will have to post pics of the family in peacock aqua or whatever the colour is the Mrs picked. She thought the pink flowers were overkill tho.

To be sure there are security concerns but these can be taken care of courteously - the security weren't preventing menace, they were enforcing the requirement that I walk past the goods and chattels. I do want to buy stuff - a second roof rack carrier for my trip to Knysna in July for example - I simply won't from the Expo on principle now after my experience there.

Give the customer a choice - it's just good business practice.

What is the cut-off time at Smits?

I told my wife and and youngest son they just have to focus on making that cut with the wind from the front. From there it should be better. It will be their first Argus, and they start just before 10.

In the same boat with the missus. Can't remember the cutoff but you need to do something like 20km/h average, to make it. After that first cutoff, things become a lot easier.

When you wear your skinsuit with socks and Crocs, I'm not surprised the security guys were a bit tense ????
