Research towards improving Cycling Safety

Hi, I am currently writing a Thesis on cycling safety in South Africa. Please aid me in my research by filling out a short 6 question survey. The research is aimed at improving road safety for cyclists.

I would cycle up to them and start talking. When they take the headphone out I will say. "...and that's how I lost my third testicle!" Then cycle away

Anyone putting in effort towards cycling safety is a winna, winna chicken dinna dude in my view! So, firstly, good job chap! Did your survey. Yes music, on a loudspeaker (a bluetooth handsfree speaker for a phone is the actual device). Works grand. Can get some tunes going especially when I'm riding solo, but still hear ambient vehicle and traffic noise as I don't have anything in my ear.

 

I am however more interested in understanding what correlations you are hoping to expose by making the focus of cycling safety on whether someone listens to music and which device type they use if they do whilst on the bike?

You've chosen a great topic Zahur, and one most of us here care about with a passion.

 

But focusing on Music with 2 out of 5 questions gives it more prominence than it deserves.

 

I also answered "No" to your 1st question, but I don't fully believe that is true - a "Moderately" option would have been more accurate. Cycling in most countries has an element of danger, and we suffer up there too much, but I wouldn't class it as totally unsafe here, or hugely worse than other places I've ridden.

 

A lot more could be done though - so keep up the focus for us please, and try and expand the areas you can investigate to how to help raise awareness and make it safer for all
