I love this forum, its one of the few places where you can come in with a rant(with good intentions) get your point across(badly) and then get absolutely shredded for it.

Im just sad I missed the earlier posts, no fun getting the pitchforks and torches out so late in the game :(

... Who ride in black cycling gear, to match their matt black bike and black helmet, with no red or white light on their bike!!!!

Yes, I know I'm opening myself up for a lot of abuse from the roadie comunity , but stop and think about it!!! While riding on the road, a place where you are the smallest vehicle, the path of least Resistance, almost insignificant when it comes to other road uses, the last thing you should be doing is dress like a Ninja!

It's funny, but the riders who dress in sheath also seem to be the ones who disobey the road rules; don't stop at red lights, ride two a breast, don't use hand signals.

The Muppet I saw ridding north on Ceder road at 3pm today, was wearing black Specialized top riding a matt black Specialized bike jumped two traffic lights in 2km. When I hooted at him as he went through the second traffic light he didn't flinch... Cause he was also wearing headphones!!!!

While I am ranting, I would also like to address the "what are the rules" ranters.... Who has right of way:

People playing touch rugby on the William Nicol or the Cars?

People playing soccer on Rivonia or the taxi's?

Formula 1 cars on Sandton drive or the traffic?

If you think about it in that context, Sports cyclists, like the above menssioned Sports should have no place on the road (even if they are wearing neon shirts and have lights on their bikes) Unless its a closed road event like 947, Commrads Marathon, or Sandton Grand Prix.

Commuters get the idea... Make yourself as visible as possible, ride in single file, stop at red lights, always look out for cars (cause they don't look out for you).

You need to remember that if your in an accident, it doesn't matter 'who was in the right', you will always come off second best.

YOU are the path of least resistance.

RANT OFF!

A few points:

  • Change your title, it's an awful choice of words.
  • Even if you make one or two valid points, it will be drowned out by all the other nonsense you write.
  • This is not an English exam but your narrative must be reasonably coherent.
  • And, if your argument was cogent and well thought through, critics will still abound.

Please forgive the OP. Ranting makes the brain all mushy, so spelling goes out the window. Also causes one to not read your own post because your eyes become bloodshot.  :whistling:

The fact that your saw this hapless chap strongly suggests that his 'stealth' riding needs some improvement!

I commute on a motorbike and I am a cyclist, as a motorbike commuter you continually have to look out for Pedestrians, Cars, Taxis etc.

I look out for cyclists because they share my passion.

To the OP, delete all the other irrelevant crap, and rather say you saw a chop on a bicycle on cedar road jump two red traffic lights.

done, and asked admin to change the title of the topic.

It's OK, we don't hate you back, you already have your punishment, as we laugh our heads off at the people who sit in traffic in their vehicles every time we go by peak hour traffic...

Riding along in the puddles on my bike getting bideted is all the punishment I am willing to take on two wheels. The thought of wilful winter commuting with psychos in tanks all round is too much for this wuss. But I do admire you speedy trip...

Either that or he was too busy typing on his phone while driving, clutching a beer between his legs..

At least the title got my attention. LOL

The title was there to get your attention (job done), for the rest of the post, I tried to make what I thought were valid points... and obviously failed

1 don't ride in stealth and expect to be seen,

2 wearing headphones is also stupid

3 which other 'sports' are allowed to participate on public roads - maybe we should be a bit more respectful and make ourselves as visible as possible.

4. In an accident you will always come off second best - (75kg+9kg) @ 50km/h vs. 2000kg @ 80km/h

In future I will stick to what a do best... helping out riders who have technicals and don't have the correct tools with them

Ag, ranting about ranters is how we get our HR up for our smoothies. I wouldn't worry unless you are missing points yourself.

2. Agreed

4. What Spez road bike weights 9 kilos?

Dude I understand your rant but, damn you went about it all wrong.

Also it was kinda pointless editing your OP as so many guys had already replied so guys like myself who didn't log onto bikehub yesterday afternoon can still see what your first post looked like.

Anyway good luck living this one down, you might become the 2nd most famous hubber after Evan...................

Adam, it seems you've made a valuable realisation dude. Often you can have the most valid content but if your delivery is poor the message will be entirely lost!

Another thing to take note of and that is that the majority of the community here are not the type of cyclist you are describing in your rant. Where you lost any buy in to your views though, was suggesting that PUBLIC roads are more public for motor vehicles than for cyclists, whether they are commuters or fitness riders. Anyone who lives in this country is entitled to use public roads. From a personal safety perspective, it obviously does not make sense to use some roads at all, whilst only using others at certain times or situations. These are the choices we each individually must make!
