Shower facilities in CPT CBD

In the early days my office park had a toilet in the basement parking that turned out to be my birdbath till we built a shower. Because of the basement situation, it became my private domain.

I used to stand in front of the basin and wash myself down with a face cloth. Just made sure I got to work early as I didn't want people in and out of the bathroom whilst I'm having a basin bath.

My new job has a shower, but I've gotten too lazy to commute to work

Hi guys, total newbie to commuting so silly question coming up.

I would like to start commuting from Constantia to work in CT, then shower at Point gym.

Would the best route in terms of safety and traffic be up Contantia Nek, down to Hout Bay and take the coastal road into town? Would the same route be fine on the way back?

Also, how do you guys go about it logistically? Do you carry a change of clothing on a backpack or keep it at the gym/work? Also, when going back home, do you use the same cycling clothing from the morning?

Sorry for the dumb questions, just trying to figure out what the best way would be.

Thanks!

I am lucky in that we have showers at work with lockers so I keep 3 shirts or more at work and underwear then once a week I will drive in and bring in some fresh clothing and take the dirty ones to be washed.

You are not allowed to keep things in the lockers overnight at Virgin active as they clear out the lockers every evening.

I use the same kit that i used the morning otherwise I will def be running out of cycling kit. Just make sure you can hang up the bibs and jersey so that it can air nicely through the day.

Drop off and collect a week's clothing on a Sunday or days that I am forced to use a car.

Doesn't matter what route to take, you want to leave as early as possible to get a nice flow in. when it gets congested then you must watch for doors opening, people crossing, taxis stopping etc.

+1 for the basin bath. I never thought it would work but I gave it a try and never looked back. It works fine.

Been doing this for the last 5 months ... :)

Proper shower and shave at home.  4km SLOW ride to work, to keep the sweat to a minimum...  Basin bath, some underarm spray and ready for the day .... In the afternoon I get to push it a bit.

Backpack is way too sweaty, so I made a little aluminium box to fit on the back carrier.  Custom made for my lunch box and clothes for the day.  Had some interesting comments on the box ... but hey, it WORKS for me. :)
