Hi, can anyone help identify this bottom bracket standard? This is my Giant OCR 2 from 2000, that has 105 parts on it that come from before then, I think 1996 if I'm correct. Obtained it from a family member, who got the frame for free and then had it built up but can't remember what it is either. . .

Any help would be appreciated

Looks like BSA Standard (asĀ s14phoenix said, it's a Giant, so unlikely an Italian thread)

Ā

So that means you can fit any "external cup" BB (so SRAM GXP, Shimano Hollowtech2 etc.). You can even get bottom brackets for that which will fit BB30 cranks as far as I know.

Thanks alot!

On a side note, can new wheelsets still take 8 speed cassettes? Or must I change something?

Ā

8, 9 and 10sp cassettes use the same freehub body. So yes it will be fine.

Ā

Most wheels that are 11sp compatible will give you a spacer to run our antiquated 10sp cassette which means you can use your 8sp cassette on there too.

What Simon says...

Ā

Definitely a square taper, octalink only started with 9 speed gruppos. The threads will be english and shell width being 68mm. this would be fairly standard across road bikes of that era...the thing that would change is axle length 108/110/113mm used to be the most common.

Ā

8 speed cassettes are compatible with modern wheels
