The 100th Giro d'Italia

Big day..my call is Movistar will be so eager to drive the pace that TD must just hang and make sure 1 or 2 doms stay close to him. They don't really have to do much because Movistar will not want to allow them to dictate the pace.

If Quintana wants this he has to go for it himself....no amount of tempo riding by his teammates are going to hurt TD.They might isolate him but in the end Quintana has to do it and he has to go long.

Trick for TD is not to let the wrong combination of GC riders go on their own..think conto and Q at Vuelta

Also in his favour will be lots of riders will want to protect their position now..so Pinot is not going to let Nibali go and both can't afford to let Zakarin get to close and so on.

I am looking forward to TD showing all what he can do in the high mountains.

On paper his power to weight is on par with Q...With Q having the advantage of acceleration over TD's absolute power.

Other than altitude issues I can see no reason why TD will struggle with hard tempo climbing from Movistar..It should actually suit him..It's the accelerations that hurts him.At somewhere close to 6.3 watts per kilogram no dom should hurt him anymore than it will hurt Q.

Let's see...

I also think Sky will be in the mix today, a few unspoken alliances and to put pressure on Movistar, if not to break them.. to at least keep the pace high that is difficult to attack... going to be an interesting day!!

Sky to pull a Astana on him and exhaust him for the TDF. But then Sky don't have anyone threatening GC.. so they may just get the space they need for a stage win.

It's often that boggerall does happen on days like today...none of the GC guys do any attacking until maybe the last 2kms of the final climb

Thats usually the case if its super close between No1 and No2.

But today we have 2,3,4th spot all within a minute of each other, but all way off 1st.

1 of those 3 will surely try get one over the other. They can't all get the same time, even if they gang up on TommyD, they will surely still need to have a go at each other.

I imagine some chaos on the last decent into Bormio. That way down has some technical sections and dark tunnels.

A race within a race today. Guys wanting to improve their GC standings and then the race for stage glory. .

Reckon plenty riders will want to get I to the break today.

Dumoulin already shown he is a very smart rider..let's see how the legs are..but damn I am routing for him.. go Tommy D

For sure he is in with a chance. I just think its unfair that some seem to think one can sit Froomes wheel and attack at will up the alpine climbs while every other GC contender has been dropped.

Not to turn this into a 2016 TDF thread, but in that race he could have attacked Yellow on the early climbs, it was however his strategy to sit wheel, not lose too much time, and try and make it back in the last week, which he nearly did.

This could possibly be the first time we are all routing for the same GC rider ..shows you how awesome and likeable he is.

Lets not confuse dislike for him as people discounting his cycling ability.

I still think he can take a real stab at winning the race.

He still needs to improve his descending skills and is only strong on hilltop finishes

Im routing for him, but I called Pinot earlier on when my Yates bet didn't work out, and as much as I want too, I can't jump ship.

So will be cheering him, but not going to pretend that I picked him from the start. Think my excuse was that to pick him was too "mainstream" :P

And only when it is very steep and very long.

Which also make his attack the other day weird.

I believe TD will not lose any time to NQ. Really hope that happens. I did not see that NQ had anything for TD - He is yet to prove what all the hype around him is about.

I think NQ is trying to peak for TDF and in preparation for it I think he was assuming to win the Giro without any real big perceived threat - nobody saw TD coming - which is what is making this such a magical Giro win...   rooting for him to do it

Looking forward to today. Not going to pretend to know what will happen but I think there will be lots of action and lots of attacks.

One of my favourite riders..."The snail" has not had a go at all during this Giro and he is a breakaway specialist...come on Johann...give it a go!!!!!
