I used to do some work with the 94.7 organisers....will try to have a chat....94.7 also used to participate with I think it was Cyclelab at the riding clinics at Kyalami in the weeks leading up to Cyclechallenge...

One day a week Trek used to have a maintenance stand as well, If you were a Trek owner you could get things like gears and brakes adjusted.

Who is in support? .

Definitely in, I started a new job in Kyalami just when the revamp kicked off. Always hoped they would open it up for cyclists again.

Burn something.

Probably the biggest "burning" moment engraved in my brain is from ~1993 going up the mine shaft as a weekend warrior with WE & co dictating the pace... It felt like little gas bubbles popping & burning in my calves

A month or 2 back I called Kyalami racetrack which as many know is under new ownership and has been refurbished at massive investment, to ask if/when the track is ever going to open for cyclists and was given a "nope"..

Cyclists being able to make use of the track after hours on certain days made a huge difference in that office-bound cyclists were able to get some much needed mileage during the week.

How can we go about respectfully requesting the new owners (Porsche SA) to let us do so once again?

Who is in support? .

Maybe someone here knows Toby Venter, the boss and can very nicely ask.

I think it is especially relevant as 94.7 Cyclechallenge and the circuit owners have seen fit for us to do a lap which ostensibly puts the revamped circuit back on the map with approx. 30,000 cyclists?

Maybe we should start a poll?

There is a big race next weekend at Kylami, and its the first time that he will be racing his Porche on the new track, and I am sure that he is super focused on winning.

If he wins on the 22nd, he might be in a good enough mood to be asked.

I work in Midrand and used to train at the old track after work whenever it was open.It was fantastic to be able to ride or train in a safe and secure environment, particulary off the road away from traffic. The lap was 4.1 kms with about 50m of climbing per lap - I believe that it is longer now - but if done done properly you could have a really good training session.

I would support any move to be able to access Kyalami for cyclists again, even if only two or three evenings a week, or even on an ad hoc basis where availability could be posted on a website for example. It would also be nice if it could be opened for cycling a few times before the 94.7

follow the example of fees must fall.

Burn the track !! wait hang on something fishy in the logic ........ no go ahead, burn it ..... logic is sound

I demand a free decolonized Porches for all hubbers.

Riiiight......

Actually best to setup an online petition and ask very nicely for them to open it regularly for cyclists - then they will be able to guage support for the opening to cyclists as well.

Alternately - try pitching at the track on the 29th - he will probably be there for a while

There was a similar thread a while back. One of the reasons was that the venue is trying to be a conference centre and rental will include access to the track. That means if the facility does well on conferences the track will never be available.

But time will tell and I cannot agree more that a nice safe place to train would be very welcome.

But cycling was always after hours when the circuit is closed. I'm sure they can't drive on circuit with cars and motorcycles after a certain time due to lighting and even more so noise regs....
