Louis is not that strong in crosswinds. He also missed a split in the crosswinds last year, and also lost a chunk of time. And it did not help that there were no team mates around to help him.

But in true Maincheese style, he did not give up and fought to the bitter end.

For the next two mountain stages Louis needs to have Bostik applied between his Front wheel and the back wheel of Dan Martin.

Dan will not be content with 7th position and he is the only guy who seems willing and able to attack the other GC guys.

He is gonna give it a go, guaranteed, Louis just needs to be able to respond and then counter attack as soon as they reel martin back in. He is far enough behind that the main contenders will let him go and that could be the springboard he needs to launch himself up the GC!

C'mon Louis! We are rooting for you! It is so great that after all these years we finally have a proper Saffer to cheer for in GC and not just the odd breakaway or Sprint.

Dan looked a bit flat yesterday in the final 10km but I hope you are right!

The guy has been working so hard day after day - I'm amazed he can get out of bed in the mornings!

You know what I like about Louis?

His "fame" has not gone to his head. The last time I bumped into him, we chatted like old times, he kept on calling me "Oom", as we cycled along. Me, the old toppie out for a relaxed ride, he the TDF GC contender out on a 6 hr ride.

He still is in person the same youngster that spun like a hamster in a hamster wheel, to keep up with us in his Junior gear ratio. He sweated blood, but never complained.

A true Champion.

Whilst I agree with 100% that he is super nice guy. Unfortunately being a nice guy and calling people "Oom" is not what makes you a "true champion" in cycling. You need to win races too.

Today and tomorrow are the days that will define who is willing to take on Froome.

I have an idea that someone is gonna blow today, tomorrow definitely one or more.

I don't like the fact that Meintjes is so skinny and ribbed. To take on a GT, you need some fat reserves on your body. I think Louis might be running out of energy.

If LM doesn't pull the pin in these last few stages, the question is going to become, will he ever?

I made the comment earlier that he will be good for another top 10, probably matching his 8th placing.

For Louis to progress to top 3 if I understood the comment, would take another 3 years to progress.

It is still awesome and unbelievable to have a Saffa up there and beating my "old" hero`s.

Ps. If I had his talent and form, with my hot head, I will attack on the first climb with everything I have...and blow-up 30km down the route.

I have a suspicion... I think it will be yates to blow up Louis to out last and out climb him in the next 2 days - Yates pushed hard with Martin also a few times and I think fatigue is going to catch up.

But first to go will be Nairo and Alberto.

I see Froomey, Uran and Bardet at the end. Froome said he is feeling stronger every day.

Uran and Bardet have looked super strong and Uran seems to be keeping up quite easily.

Martin I see somewhere in between.

This is a fantastic tour! Loving it all the way.

Long reply edited to, WHATEVER!!

(you just jealous that you do not qualify for him to call you Oom?  :whistling: )

Hrs still in the young rider category

On a fantastic curve of development

Peak performance is possible at age 27 or thereabouts

All to be revealed

A second consecutive top 10er is stunning

Now to lean into that top 5

Unfortunately, he's freelancing and team support is integral to higher honours.
