Pikey Posted November 9, 2016 Author Posted November 9, 2016 Quick question, what type of speeds would you guys start with and maintain?Good question, was wandering myself. " Racing team " scares me ????
Spoke101 Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Quick question, what type of speeds would you guys start with and maintain?Depends on the route (elevation and distance), weather conditions and the number of riders plus how well they work together. i would say some where between 30-35km/h on a flat route for about 50km's. Ounce everyone gets there act together ±40km/h could be possible.
BouncingBrain Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 I most likely won't make Saturdays.. But if there is another 1 planned for a Sunday, I'll try to make it..
Patchelicious Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 if the doc gives me the all clear I'm in. But racing team .... Who else that wants to learn is in? C'mon guys this is what this thread is about .I'll be there, and coffees on me after.....
Dexter-morgan Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Very keen on leaning some new skills but I am no where close to 35km/h, I battled to maintain 32 in the first 50 with Sunday's race.
Frosty Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Best is to start off at about 30km/h so the "newbies" can get used to it. Then step it up gradually until everyone is capable. The interclub/Gauteng Champs route is a perfect course to try this on. Edit: even as low as 28km/h Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The pace will be set by the people that arrive. Nobody will be left behind! If you need to go 25km/h to get the formation going, so be it.

My Race speed avg over a 100km is between 31-34 All though I wont be there this time I totally agree with Patch. Go as slow as needed till everyone grasps the concept this depends on the groups experience. The biggest issue I find with introducing pace lines to newer riders is the tendency up the pace when the rider in front of them peals off. this then creates the stretching elastic as guys surge to try keep on the wheel. It might not be a bad idea to have a 10min chat before the ride even starts just to get a feeling for everyone's experience and communicate how you plan to run things. On a side note: you will be very surprised at the speeds a well drilled pace line can achieve with minimal effort, smooth is fast and communication is key like alerting the last rider in the slow line that he is now last and must cross over onto your wheel as you come passed having just been told by the rider in front of you. If you are feeling like the pace is a little fast just sit at the back of the slow line for a few turns and alert each rider dropping back that they must cross over and that you taking a breather.
Cycotic Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 I'm in too. Apologies in advance for slowing the group down. What time is everyone keen on? And I only know the circus from the start of the R4V. Do we meet in that same parking area?
Ryinc Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Lets meet 6.45, suggest we dont have too many chiefs so suggest Gerald calls the shots if there otherwise we nominate 1 or 2 others.
