Road tyres....are you led astray?

You can. The theory is, however, that your training wheels are heavier and more durable, while your racing wheels are built for speed, at the possible expense of durability/longevity.

Thanks. Good to know why a podium position has always eluded me.

Mr Bontrager's triage applies.

Traditionally, durability and  weight (read speed) were contradictory, even at the pricy end of the scale. Heavier clinchers for training and light tubbies for racing.

I think with the development of deeper-section aero carbon clincher wheels you can get fast and strong wheels that are both strong enough for training and fast enough for racing, at least for all at but the very top end where tubbies still dominate.

To the OP, do not let the other cynics get you down. I think you are on the right track.

I just so happen to have a set of Ultremos on a bike and had always considered them a bit mehh. Little did I know I was running them way to soft at 6 bar.

I pumped them to 9 bar before this morning's ride and I must say, the feedback is brilliant. I could feel every imperfection in the road so I can avoid them next time. Every time I strayed out of my lane I got a kick up the @rse as I crossed the white line. I rode over a coin and could tell that it was lying heads-up.

It was such a unique experience I don't think I can treat myself again. I'll go back to 6 bar and replace with some Contis when these are shot.

You could see your rims pop at 9bar.

With the question of 9 bars being too high, how do I know that the pump I am using is still accurate and doesn't over/under inflate after years usage? I don't pump my tyres more than 7bars on carbon clinchers

I get threads about topics of interest, but this mentality of posting obscure self fulfilling oneisms just gets my goat.

Well done bro. You over inflate your tires and you like it. I don't think any of us need to know that, care to know that nor want to know that.

Thanks for taking the time to air your view. However, ironically, we don't care that you don't care  :whistling:

Schwable Ultremo...any variant

Gatorskins feel dead.

I weigh 97kg

My bike 6,7  or 9kg for the Steel one.

I like to ride hard...so little comfort lost is not an issue.

i dont pose................

if you dont see my point...dont lose any sleep!

Make me laugh.

Ultremo are barely better than Gatorskins. I haven't looked up the records but they are a very old tyre and have been usurped in the Schwalbe range by almost ALL their tubeless varieties.

And if you are still riding with tubes no one takes you seriously anyway.

I'm banning myself from this site now. I obviously got out of bed on the wrong side.... I better have won that Scott Spark!

you also brake your own rules ? you non conformist, you :whistling:

Lots of opinions here. Any facts? Or new information? Other than your opinion I mean. Like why you think what you do.

Still struggling to see the point of this string. It's been done to death.

There is so much information about this topic that seems to contradict the OP.

But as we have found out facts don't matter anymore.

I once rode with a guy who swore by 21mm tyres pumped to 11bars....

Go read up on the subject.

Quite interesting if you dig deep and make your own mind up.

Actually better....go ride a few different tyres and you might learn something....

wait wait wait ... lets back this up a bit.

I mean lets call a spade a spade and not a shovel.

But what the yanky doodle does this mean "....and give good road feedback"? I dont know where you stay, but we dont have cobble stones, pot holes yes, but no cobble stones. And tar is tar. Either the rubber is on it, or you skin is. Is that not about as much feedback as you need ?

Maybe trying to be different on a road bike makes you a conformist, as all roadies like to be different on a road bike. #whitebibsandsocks

Tar is not tar.....just saying....

Take a GP4000S II up to 8bar and ride a 1km stretch in the street up front from your yard.

Do exactly the same with a Vittoria Open Corsa.  All other variable equal.

Then comment.

I will not lose any sleep... But still don't see your point... "Road feedback?!??".

Grip, reliability, durability. Gatorskin, there, I said it. END OF STORY!

You must be an engineer?

Things like "road feedback" and "feelings" you'll never understand.

Same goes for the argument of Tubbies vs Clinchers.

Go ride them.

If you can't feel a difference then call the doc.....you have "something" wrong with you.

:D  :P
