Meeting with local authorities a fail, with race organizers unable to provide any relevant/required docs, which also impacts on permission from local traffic authorities.

The safety file goes beyond CSA approvals.....

Organizer says he will postpone, to get his ducks in a row, but given the runaround his given the local authorities, I await his press release

Sounds like you were there?

Who is the actual dude/dudette who is organizing?

I have no skin in this game, so let me ask this - do the local organisers have any prior pedigree when it comes to organising road cycle races in SA?

Oh well!

Looks like a club ride in the Midlands on Sunday. No point cancelling the accommodation - it's not their fault, and they will mostly likely keep the deposit.

However, a refund from the organisers will be greatly appreciated.

After the CTCT set the precedent of cancelling without refunds I do earnestly hope that L’étape South Africa don't think it's OK to cancel/postpone races at such a late stage and keep the entrance fee.

The organisation of this race is becoming farcical.

I think pitch forks are in order now. All I can say is that these guys best refund race entry fees post haste. For me it's a matter of principle, you don't take people's money when you aren't certain you can deliver the product that was contracted.

I for one will not take this lying down.

This is a bit different to CTCT. That was an on the day unforseen.

This on the other hand seems more like a bunch of crooks at work.

That or they were WAY out of their depth.

The latter. If they were the former they would be in Government as ANC deployees.

Of course the former does not preclude the latter. But not always vice versa.

I've brought up "event cancellation insurance" as an agenda point for our next race committee meeting. Knowing that costs are laid out in advance, and on race day - a good portion of the expenses are done before/during the event. But it's also important to look after the people that bring in the income - namely the cyclists.

I say lets just pitch fork the lot of them regardless. Can throw in some of those ANC "deployees" too.

Letape South Africa.. a meeting was held this afternoon at 4pm with Mike Bradley (CSA) and Kelvin du Sart (KZN Road Com) and the Race Organiser's to discuss the above event regarding documentation. The organizers have asked for an indefinite postponement of the event. CSA will issue a statement.
