In for sure, probably got to be one of the most scenic areas in the country, and as the route will move around year on year (provided there is an event in 2018) this is a once off opportunity to ride around this part of the country. Probably won't be that much time for appreciating scenery though as this seems like a 7 hour suffer fest for me!

Okay the road bike went for a 90min spin late this afternoon. Damn I am going to have to do something about my core, this is what happens when you watch more cycling than actually riding.. everything goes to shite..[emoji53] baby steps.. I will get there.

The journey of a 1000 miles starts with the first step

Our buddy in France is doing the one there.. but he is also doing the Flanders-Roubaix double next year.. we have both been really sleg.. so we are going to compare notes and training sessions and plans he he.. a way for both of us to HTFU and train.

Shame he will really have HTFU for his events..he has done the Flanders-Roubaix double a few times.. but the first time he is doing L'Etape..

The French L'Etape..

On the occasion of the presentation of the 104th edition of the Tour de France, the new route of the 2017 Étape du Tour has also been revealed to the public.

The 18th stage, between Briançon and Izoard, will enable cyclists from around the world to measure themselves up against this major challenge on 16th July 2017, just four days before the professional peloton.

For the 27th edition of the Étape du Tour, 178km and 3,529m of elevation gains will be on the agenda with a loop route from Briançon which is designed to make life easy for you and your supporters. Two legendary climbs will put your climbing abilities to the test: the Col de Vars and the Col de l’Izoard, which peaks at no less than 2,360m.

Go for it.....its a tough route with lots of climbing.  Get used to climbing out the saddle,  the kamberg is no joke.  If you visiting your folks in dec, maybe we go preride the route?  #doinghomework

I foresee many hours doing repeats up our one koppie.[emoji53]

I am probably going to have to think of going away for a few weekends where I can go find some climbing to do[emoji85]

Aaw would love to go check out the route with you.. but we are heading to Sodwana for a week in December, the boys are doing their diving courses this year.

I have always thought a pretty cool/ tough route would be the comrades up route then following on up through pmb up old howick rd through hilton, then on to howick and all the way up the underberg road to himeville culminating with a mountain top finish at sani pass. (Once it has been tarred)

That should add up to about 260km give or take and about a whole shedload of climbing! (Around 4000m I would guess)

Some chaps from Cadence in Hillcrest just did that exact ride on mtb in a single day to raise money for the SPCA.

Because I am coming off a lot of watching cycling I am approaching the preparation as follows.

Short term goals and just TITS

And been told to stick to the HR zones and under no circumstances to go above that for the next 3 weeks.. even if it feels like I feel good.. to ignore speed and distance that will come..

So I will break down the prep and work in 3week blocks..

The first week to increase time on the bike by 30min every day for 3 days.. have a rest day and repeat the recipe for the next 3 days.

You guys are really more than welcome to give me more training input I am very good at following instructions.[emoji4]

Fortunately the timing is good..my youngest finished exams on the 1st so my afternoons will be clear and I will have a lot more time than before.

There is just 1 week in DEC where I won't be able to go for rides.. but I am thinking I will take the bike and IDT with to Sodwana and do the stationary thing for that week.

I have done the calculations for my HR zones etc.. and I will also adjust my diet a bit.. I don't have 30kg to lose but the way my clothes fit atm I reckon I should at least lose 6-8kg.. (I don't have a scale so I don't know how much I weigh.. but I am guessing about 62 kg..)

This means it is the last Friday I can buy pancakes from the oom that comes round the office[emoji53]
