Hi Guys

UPDATE 4

Morning RHR - 55bpm

Weight - 122,7kgs

Training - Not yet, but planning on doing another run this afternoon.

Like I said earlier I am deciding between the Fuji Nevada with Alivio/Deore components or the Titan Trail with Tourney/Acera components, but with an air fork. Will I be better off taking the bike with the airfork now and upgrading components later or taking the better components and upgrading the fork later on.

Another thing, would the event be better suited to flat pedals or should I go clipless? Should I go with flats, what is the best shoes to use with the pedals? I was thinking of using the pedals that come with the bike whilst away on holiday during December because it is just easier to go for a quick ride with my daughter.

I'll update this afternoon after my run.

Hi Prince, first off: well done on your quest. I'm equally horrified, fascinated and in awe!

About flat pedals: I've travelled all around Ireland and Holland (sometimes big distances, but very little vertical ascent) on flat pedals with normal soft trail running shoes - worked just fine.

But last weekend I cycled 13 kms on my flat pedals with Salomons - and now that I got used to cycling shoes, I really could feel the difference between the running- and cycling shoes. Even if you go flat pedals - get a proper cycling shoe if you can fit that into your budget.

Going to ATKV EIland - camping for two weeks. Thought the Flat pedals might work better because my daughter usually wants to go and ride, but just like a km or two so its easier to just get on the bike and go for a quick ride with the flats.

I have proper MTB shoes so I'll just have to get some clipless pedals. My thinking with the flats was that, if you fall asleep on the bike during the night, you're at least not attached to it :whistling:

Doesn't make too much difference, the hardest part about falling asleep while cycling is once you are in the ditch(still attached to bike) is getting straight back up again. It is far easier to just stay there lying down and sleep till you start chivering than get up straight away...

you got your priorities all wrong...wasting all that money on a holiday with the family... spending quality time with your daughter... instead of blowing it all on a better bike and training day and night...now i am convinced you are crazy.

You're nut, but imagine the stories you'll be able to tell. I find I loose interest in training without a goal, so I hear you loud and clear. Rooting for you as well.

Oooooo.......Love the Eiland......Enjoy.  They have quite a few trails there if I remember correctly.

Go clipless.

If you put on running shoes or cycling shoes, it is the same "effort".

You'll just have a better ride on clipless

Ive tried to find out what trails there are, but to no avail. I hope there are some nice trails!

I have been doing my homework...just in case...the fellas do the 340 km in around 16 hrs...lucky they have a backup vehicle...so i can put all the spare batteries i am gona need to get that far...now to decide which bike is gona offer the best mileage per charge...apparently it gets quite hot by mid day...riding in slops might be a better idea.

I was thinking of a flat pedal with something like this. Just that the feet can get some air. My planning is that I will go far longer than say 15 or 16 hours so the feet have to breath. 0999fe2a414e15ca889ec05b4c4fad33.jpg

Those are cool, plenty of holes to let the blood drain out... there's only one thing worse than shoes filling up with blood

Clipless defintely so you can pull on the up stroke and wipe your feet at the bottom... difficult to do with flat pedals... and also if you need to bunny hop over some obstacles then clipless makes it easy to pronk them
