Hi guys and girls

I past the Kuilsriver golf club last night at about 18:30.

There was a cyclist in the road banged up bike.

Did not stop since EMT were there.

Does anybody have any info?

Always sobering to hear about an incident on a supposedly "safe" road...

But I guess no news is good news? If he was seriously injured or killed we would have heard by now?

Bottelary Rd is so popular

There are warning road signs indicating the presence of cyclists'.

High speeds on that open road though. And that's the risk.

Hope the cyclist is okay.

One of my club members was clipped by a cement truck on Bottelary Rd this past Saturday morning and narrowly missing 2 other members and the driver didnt even stop.

No one got the company name or lic registration number of the truck unfortunately.

He was "fine" to ride back home but has a bruised hip and elbow and some road rash. Xrays revealed that nothing is broken, thankfully,

They were cycling in the yellow line and he was hit from behind.

Botties at sunset and sunrise can be a bit tricky for visibility

18:30ish is right about that time, depending which side the incident happens

I'm always aware of my position relative to the sun relative to motorists' viewpoint

Lack of news related to the incident can only be a good thing! Hope the rider is OK!

Why don't you chaps put on a rear view mirror? No, I'm not talking about a miff looking thing attaching like a motorbike. You get inserts that go into the bottom on the dropouts that make it look as if there isn't even a mirror there if you're that concerned about the way your bike looks!

I can't begin to tell you how many times I have personally taken my own life in control by having the ability to see what is coming up behind me and react BEFORE the vehicle is on top of me! Get one and try it! Will be the single best investment in accessories for the bike you can get. Go through the next 2 rides getting used to the idea of using it and your rides will never leave you feeling as exposed to blindly faithing that whatever is coming up from behind will give you space again!

with the amount of accidents over the last 3 weeks, i am leaning towards joining the mountain goats.

Yes we enjoy road riding, but off road riding is better than not riding..... or being taken out....
