Short answer, Yes.

 

 

shoes, socks, bags: 40%

Gloves: 30%

Helmets (fullface or other): 25%

Knee pads and other protective equipment: 20%

plastic bottles: 15%

whole bicycles: 15%

Goggles: 0%

bike components: 0%

cycling electronics: 0%

 

+ VAT

If you import a complete bicycle from the EU, the duty is 0%

If you import a complete bicycle from just about anywhere else, the duty is 15%

If you buy a bicycle from the EU region, and the manufacturer/agent/reseller releases a Euro certificate, then the duty is 0 %

correct, but the entire article must be of EU origin.  Have always wondered about this when it comes to bicycles.

Just got a bill from Dawn Wing couriers with a 60% surcharge for a pair of Giro shoes from wiggle. R 2066.00 extra. Stressful.

Sounds about right.
