I am sorry, but if they all break in the same place, and you have broken a few, why the hell are you still riding them, good luck when your frame brakes at high speed and you end up in hospital.

I'd take the Expert.  Definitely,

All new components, undoubtedly an upgrade especially if your gear is all from 2009!  Things have moved a long way since then, especially in gearing.

I would only choose the S-Works if you're planning on upgrading the groupset at the same time.  But that will cost you money.

Are you racing competitively?  If not, then you'll be just as fast on the Expert as on the S-works.  Even if you are racing competitively I'm not convinced that you'll be any slower on the Expert.

In my opinion, having an S-Works and being a mid packer is pointless showing off, and in your position will gain you nothing.

I'd take a brand new Expert hands down.

Man that is some seriously good support, I wonder how Giant would compare?(wondering because I have a Giant)

I would say it depends on how current your drivetrain is and its condition, but personally would probably go for the complete bike.

I would guess its still in good nick seeing the bike broke soo many times...

No you won't- it will break.... every 3 years....

I am curious as to where these bikes all break in the same place?

On the main pivot just above the BB - this is a 2010 model S-Works. None of them lasted particularly long, either, in terms of mileage, maybe up to 5000km apiece. The last one only did around 2000-2500km.

In any event, the failures weren't catastrophic and a company which stands by its product that well will always have my support.

Only thing I would say, is I would never buy a secondhand one of these bikes. The first owner warranty makes the eye watering new price well worth it.

I'll remember your good wishes if or when I have a prang, how nice of you to think of me like that.

What do you ride?

would have "upgraded" to a Santa Cruz after the second frame broke.

Would have cost me $10 000. That's a lot more than $0. Although a mate got a SC Tallboy recently, rode it last week, tis noice.

Don't have time to race but I do like riding as fast as possible and was once fairly quick on the racing scene. Have been mulling it over...my components are pretty new as I have replaced regularly over the years, but agree, new stuff is miles ahead. And there is something about a complete brand new bike. Decisions decisions.

Is it routine warranty replacement?

Great for you

Undoubtedly some quality issues there ⚠️

Yep warranty - not routine, though, as they don't make the 26 any longer, so they are giving me far more than just a frame. Pretty generous, I think, I would have been happy with a frame only and having to buy my own forks, wheels and other odds and sods.

OK so I asked about a full brand new S-Works and I pay in the difference - Spaz NZ said yes, no problem, we can help with that. I pay in $3k and get the whole shebang with SRAM Eagle 12sp. Pretty excited about that I must say. Hope it has Grip Shift :)

Not bad! How much would it be if you had to buy it outright?

$14000 or so. Fairly hefty discount. Might get it today, tomorrow latest. My productivity has slowed to a crawl and I have become the world's greatest advocate for 29 inch wheels and 1x12 overnight, despite anything I may or may not have said over the years about such concepts being marketing bollokcs aimed at the gullible and well-heeled.

26 is just so dead, man. And why would you want more than one chainring? Don't be silly.

I am a huge Spez fan, ridden them since 2005 - never any problems. Kudos to Spez on the service they have given you, but what is concerning to me is the amount of frames that have broken - not a great reflection on the quality of Spez...

Not so sure I'd have alot of trust in the brand if my frame had broken so many times. Would be anticipating the next snap all the time on the trails. But alas - I will personaly never buy anything else!

TBH I do think that particular model must have had an issue, although some google foo didn't turn up anything - but I have never worried about it one jot. If anything, I have eagerly anticipated the next break as it keeps my bike current. In every case, the carbon around that joint went a bit 'soft', so it was pretty easy to feel when the bike was giving way. As for any inconvenience - ah, I think I'll take that and see the very bright silver lining.

My other long term S-Works, an SL-2 road bike I got in 2007, lasted all the way to 2015 without a single issue. Sold it and replaced it with a 2015 Tarmac.
