Run away truck - Fairlands

Brakes failing is a BS story used by truck drivers when they don't use their exhaust brakes and gearing correctly. When driven correctly you basically only use the brakes when stopping or in emergencies.

This boils down to negligence on the driver's part.

Exactly, its never an accident in these circumstances...its stupidity mixed with impatience....

With all those mini-roundabouts along 14th in Fairlands is difficult to get too much speed up, especially in a truck. This could have been so much worse. Glad it wasn't.

Remember that "runaway truck" the other year coming down 14th from Ontdekkers? Hit cars at the traffic lights outside the hospital. That was terrible.

Update:

The bike is scrapped as per the Bikeshop.

On a positive note, Linden has given Dan a bike to use, swapped his saddle over and set up the bike as close to the Scott!

Well done Linden Cycles!

My dad used to drive a truck years back with some transformer gear on the back. They would go to sites and purify the oil in the transformers. He got a new driver once and the clown wasn't gearing down on the hills. My dad pointed to a sign that said engage low gear....the driver couldnt read it....he was fired!

Close call !!!

Hope the rider is ok .Have those pains checked out once over the shock.

Something like that would spook me totally and would affect my commuting. How does one deal with that subconscious fear?

We had a guy for a test ride who interviewed well, he put the truck in neutral down a hill and said he is saving us a bit of petrol. He didn't get the job.
