What breaks your MTB?

Washing your bike to often or after every ride. Do you wash your car every time you drive it ?

Also not drying it off properly. Simply wiping down the frame and bouncing it a few times won't get the water out of all the nooks and crannies, which sits and rusts components.

I invested in a compressor from Builders and use the nozzle to blow out the entire bike including the drive train.

When I do wash the bike, i call it a major wash

Remove brake pads and clean all the old dirt from the pads and inside the calipers.

Remove the Cluster, chain and front rings clean with water soluble engine cleaner.

Remove the jockey pulleys - clean and re-lube.

Use paint brush and engine cleaner to clean RD & FD

Remove seat post and clean inside the seat tube - use a long screwdriver and push a rag down a few times.

Drop the fork and clean the headset bearings.

I have modified all my cables to solid outers so I never have issues with them.

I also remove all the suspension pivot bolts and check the bearings about 3 times a year - replace them if they are sticky. Seized suspension bearings are a major cause of cracked carbon frames.

I do my wheel hubs at the same time.

MTB's are like ex wives - "High maintenance"

Suppose we need to be thankful that CX isn't bigger here in SA. All that mud!

Mountain bikers that all head home at the sight of a puddle? Grow a pair.

SHIMANO XTR

Actually i will vouch for this. in that awful 2006 year when it rained so much (Remember complaining about too much rain) my MTB was running XTR.

It shifted no matter what.

It is bulletproof. Literally with mud so bad we had to carry because the wheels were too big and couldn't fit through the fork bridges, but the XTR shifted. Back and front.

Only thing was the price to replace the clusters and chainrings. Thats when you work out that XTR is made of unobtanium.

I have a pair, I just like keeping them clean, thank you very much!

Mud is actually a lot of fun, provided you have a proper bike. Dual sus bikes are prone to wear and damage so I would rather use a real bike if you are going to ride in mud.

General mud is fine by me. I dig a muddy puddle. But, black stinky swampy mud bogs... nope.

And btw, you seem to have (also from other threads) some misplaced anger/aggression slashing out at others. Breathe, life is hard enough as is
