Heel Drop Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Hey Guys! I want to cycle from S West to Simons Town via Baden Powell Drive... I've driven the road many times but never cycled it. Anyone have any safety concerns?? Cheers!probably safer just swimming it via false bay
ZakAttak Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 probably safer just swimming it via false bayNah, you'll get eaten by a shark.... Just drive with your car to Simonstown, do not cycle that way.... otherwise, Cycle thru Stellenbosch until you reach Bottelary Road, Cycle down Bottelary and make your way thru Stikland towards Stellenberg, cycle thru towards Durbanville... Agh, forget it, is way too long that way around....
HowardSteele Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Some seriously bad drivers use that road also when the sand starts covering the road there is not much of a shoulder to ride on.
mtb impi Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 I would also opt for swimming through false bay (than taking that road cycling). Your risks would exponentially be less.
SuperDooperSnooper Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Don't chance it - WAAYYY too many reckless drivers on that road. If you manage to hold on to your bike for the whole trip...
BrandonF_ Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Even safer, the middle white line on the N2
Patchelicious Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 It's Cape Town, just cycle in the fast lane of any highway, cars seem incapable of doing more than 30km\h in that lane.
SEANSTEP Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 It's suicidal. Years ago tried a small part from the Muizenberg side. Tried it more than once just to be sure I had not imagined the first hair raising experience. Cars & trucks will just ride over you. No shoulder in parts & no one is about to wait. Don't be fooled that where there is a shoulder you will be safe. There will just be two cars abreast. Seriously dude, my advice, "Stay the Hell away unless you are trying to speed up your meeting with your Maker".
Mountain_Goat Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 3 years ago, we cycled to Rooi els as a club and we took Baden Powell to get into Stellies. Its a very very dangerous stretch of road. Hardly any shoulder, reckless drivers and the road surface was terrible. Lots of fine glass scattered amongst the road and almost everybody had atleast one puncture. My advice as everyone elses: Rather ride local or park your car near Simons Town
Jewbacca Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 There is the whole peninsula to ride around...... Just say no....
'Dale Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Drivers look at the sea and waves ???? Or mess around with their kids and/or girlfriends Too risky ????
Heel Drop Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Sounds like a fun ride then!!!!fast one yes
