..........

This past weekend I had family staying with me and I had to get out and get my exercise done before 05:00 on both days. I could have easily said, "To hell with this" and just left it, but I got out and got the blood flowing a bit.

That’s the point imo, 5am???? well done!!

Not sure I’m that dedicated, maaaaybe in summer

Exploring your hood by bike is actually quite fun. We get so caught up in 'training' we forget to do that sometimes.

I work in a small town and normally travel there by Train and bus, since I’ve added the walks into my “plan” I’ve got to see every street and open space that I would not normally see.... even found a few hills that I will in future add into my outdoor cycle routes.

I still don't get this- half the 'activities' mentioned here are so pointless that it should not count as training, and anyway, why would you want to? At some stage you are going to do a proper race and need a rest day after, if not what is the point in doing all this training.

The rest of us formulate calculated plans balancing rest and training in order to allow us to continue training and training properly because 20mins walking is what you do on site at work, it is not a 'training activity'

Moderation is a word not taught enough at schools, you see extreme diets where success is good, but short lived because it is not sustainable, yet a milder diet or just smarter food and portion choices will work for the longer run because it is sustainable, 365 for 365 is hardly sustainable, the fact okes are resorting to 'walks' or are sick so much shows this...

is that even worth getting on an indoor trainer or getting the bike dirty for?

I get the bit about getting sick due to over training, but this 365 challenge is not about training too much but rather doing a 20 minute, recorded activity every day.

And besides, getting sick doesn’t always originate from over training... contagious illnesses, airborne viruses, allergies and more can be a cause of illness to the well rested too.

Perhaps you should read the original post, and then realise that other people’s goals may be different to yours. Here is the the said post...

There were only 40 people who recorded an activity every single day on Strava for 2016

Which got me thinking. I'm going to try do at least 20mins of exercise every single day this year. It must be recorded with an actual device. Manual entries don't count

I'm going to create a Strava group for anyone wanting to join. It won't always be easy, especially if you're sick, but 20mins should be doable

So I will let my girls know that a weekly walk to the shops (of at least 30 mins) is pointless. An easy 30-min, 90bpm aveHR walk for may be pointless, but to them it’s fun. Something they only get to do when visiting their “ouma/oupa inni Kaap”.

It meets the requirements of the challenge, yet I could easily jump in the car, never letting them experience “walking”, never mind wasting fuel.

3 days of running, plus 3 days of riding, and 1 day of walking would be the same as 5-6 days of cycle-only training and 2 days of nothing. But then it’s just me and doesn’t involve my kids. This challenge is perfect to get them involved in some meaningful activity.

So to sum up... #perspective - a point of view. Yours is different to others. Stop worrying about what other people think or do. If this thread annoys you, then perhaps you shouldn’t be here... it’s for the guys/gals that feel up to the challenge.

Thank you Frosty, saved me a whole lot of time, as your thoughts mirror mine exactly, different goals, different motivation for different individuals.

The challenge has motivated me to get into an exercise "habit", some days I also feel that the 20 min walk is not "real" training, but it's better than 20 mins of couch potatoing!  You'll see from my activities too that a lot of them happen at strange hours, if it wasn't for the challenge, I'd not do those walks/runs/rides.  My general fitness and well being has definitely improved (just ask my riding buddies...  :whistling: ).

Dave303e - "365 - 52 rest days for 313" just doesn't have the same ring to it, all the best with your well formulated, balanced training plans, I'm sure that you will attain your goals, as others on this thread are attaining theirs.

Completed my ride a little while ago. For some reason it is not automatically uploading to Strava as usual. I have restarted my phone but nothing. It uploaded fine to garmin connect. Anyone else have a similar issue maybe?

Do you not think that if you were being sensible and having the odd rest day when needed your immune system may have been a bit stronger and you may not have been sick, twice?

Seeing as the first part seems to be a question I will first attempt to answer you, no I do not think that my immune system would have been any better at fighting off infections. My girlfriend were sick on both occasions as well, she has a very well structured training program with ample rest days. Sometimes getting sick is just a very normal part of life.

On the second point of doing a lot of activity that seems worthless in your eyes different strokes for different folks. 20 minutes walks might not do huge amounts for building fitness, however it does wonders for building discipline.

Everyone taking on this challenge might have different ideas in mind for the outcomes they desire arrive at

Consequence of this is that my dogs now walk many more times than what they used to. And I dropped 5kg since Jan but picked up 1kg again. So all good for me [emoji1303]

My cycling also improved to such an extent that I share a podium with Langvad on Zwift.

Just kidding, it’s because only those 2 people I follow did the segment. [emoji23]

For this 365 group the pic is different although I’m still the sweeper ....

Yep still there.... starting to feel guilty if i have a rest day and only walk

Easter is going to be tricky, going away to Spain for a golf weekend 3 x 18 holes and 2 days traveling...no bikes

also still in it, as Kalahari said, it has become a way of life.  Still very thankful for having an IDT at home, saved me a couple of times.

Did everyone have an easy week, last week?

I didn’t expect to be top of the leaderboard for the most distance. Pleasantly surprised [emoji16]
