BigTom Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Again, why not focus on BOTH! Minimize cause AND minimize consequence. You don't need to sacrifice one for the other.Have to agree 100%! MINIMIZING the cause does not eliminate the consequence. It just minimizes it. So being prepared for the consequence is still necessary. It's like saying let's work on reducing the number of road accidents so we can eliminate the need for airbags in vehicles.
Patchelicious Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 And what about the bike? ;-)About R85k damage
Long Wheel Base Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Whether its law or not, I will wear my helmet and my lightie who is 15 months and raring to go on his little plastic motorbike already has a helmet and he will not ride his bike without it. I kaked my wife out the other day because she let him try(his legs are still a bit short) ride it without his helmet.
Long Wheel Base Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 About R85k damageThat must hurt more than the broken collar bone.
Patchelicious Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 That must hurt more than the broken collar bone.Well only if my insurance dudes get funny about it. I haven't seen the bike, it got dropped off at the shop as I went hospital. So I'm just going on what the shop has said.

Patchelicious Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 Not the Colnago I hopeIndeed apparently frame has carbon damage on down tube and chain stays. And some Campy Super parts. Luckily wheels are ok.
Pure Savage Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Indeed apparently frame has carbon damage on down tube and chain stays. And some Campy Super parts. Luckily wheels are ok.Now its a race to see who can ride first, you or the bike.
Patchelicious Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 Now its a race to see who can ride first, you or the bike.I'll be on the IDT next week. But it's going to be neck and neck for road riding. There is a 6 week lead time for a replacement frame... the exact time I have been told I must wait before riding on the road again, but I'll probably be in the MTB before then. Last time it was 7 weeks from Op to riding DC
carbon29er Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Shame Patch, clavicles and shoulders are a bitch. But a clavicle that has been pinned will always heal 100%. Heal well. And selling an old bike to insurance is the best way to stay current. So all is not doom and gloom.
jimmycool Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Just don't tell the insurers that you might have had chainsuck... Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk

Rocket-Boy Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 So if I wasn't wearing my helmet yesterday, I'm am pretty certain that I would have sustained a head injury. Patch were you just looking for some pics to add to this thread so landed on your head??Sorry to hear about your crash(read further on in the fred)I hope that beaut of a bike gets sorted soon.
arabsandals Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Sanity as first European country abolishes compulsory helmet law. http://www.bikebiz.com/news/read/bosnia-becomes-first-country-to-repeal-a-cycle-helmet-law/020827 Bosnia becomes first country to repeal a cycle helmet lawThis returns the focus from reducing the consequences of crashes, to minimizing the causes of traffic crashes. That line says it all. That argument is retarded. Crashes are going to happen whether you wear a helmet or not. If That's a given then logic dictates the next step.
Patchelicious Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 That argument is retarded. Crashes are going to happen whether you wear a helmet or not. If That's a given then logic dictates the next step. However, we should most definitely be looking at things that help prevent accidents too. Helmets are re law for now here by us, so we should put a bit of focus into preventative measure now. Wider of the rider, harsher punishment for drivers, driver education etc
marko35s Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 There was some pretty compelling evidence in favour of wearing a helmet at Tokai today when a descending rider had someone turn into him on the new jeep track to the exit. Speed at the time of crash was just over 50kph, he hit the floor damn hard, head included.Helmet cracked open but he got to walk away, something he would not have done if an unprotected head hits the floor at that speed.Given the impact I'm convinced we would have had a death on our hands today without that helmet. The rider had a brave go at riding home but eventually, after the adrenaline wore off, had to cave in and I gave him a lift home.
