Lets say 5k (give or take a K or 2) to spend on a medium sized MTb, what would you look at? I know this aint much for a bike, but I cannot spend anymore than that, even though some would probably say, save up more money and buy a decent bike of 10k minimum.

 

What would you look at, frame brand, components, shock type/brand etc etc. Is there anything one should keep an eye out for?

Look at Axis bikes , IF you can get a silverback in that price bracket that will be your best option.

Be patient I've bought 2 awesome bikes on the hub under 5grand first was GT avalanche 2.0 and recently Scott genius MC 50 you can expect to find older 26'r with slx components Tubeless tyres if you lucky and decent entry level front shock do your research find a friend who has knowledge to check bike out it will be old with signs of wear but he'll as long as it rolls SAVE SELL BUY repeat as required

Not a lot to choose from in that price bracket, but don't know that you will find much better than this...

no no no, that's a damn fine bike. if it's good condition like he says then go for it

 

I want to sell the bike as a package deal, so I'm not willing to break it up at this stage. I spent over R18k (2010 rands!) building this up, so think that my price is pretty good. The bike is in Claremont.
