I have found that to be true, once you are at your goal weight. I can eat wjat I want and maintain my weight, but to lose weight I have to eat well and exercise...

Unfortunately for me even at my so called goal weight unless I eat like an Ethiopian I just pick it straight back up ????

Dinner last night...not clever...my stomach and curry don't play well together.

Battled to get to sleep last night...rain...rain...rain...eventually at around 10 pm I got my kit ready...set the alarm for 4 am.

Woke up switched the alarm off and started thinking of all sorts of excuses not to ride...eventually I got up...opened the back door and saw the paving wet...that was a good enough excuse not to ride from home to sun coast [emoji3]

Turned out to be perfect weather for a ride...cool and cloudy.

Heading north I started feeling ill and drained...I only had water with me...one of the guys shared an energy bar which gave me a boost...by the time we got back to Westbrook I needed more sugar...bought a Powerade and was good to go...

by the time I got to 80 km it was time for a sugar boost again so this time I got a red ambulance ( coke...toms description of a recovery booster) ...I couldn't find any bananas...it seems these stalls on the side of the road are stocking more junk like cheap chips and less fruit...at this stage my legs were starting to burn...my elbows also start seizing.

I stuck to the flat roads...pulled through to 100 km and had to stop for more water...as I stopped the legs locked up...slow movements...at this stage my butt started feeling the saddle.

From there to 120 km it was head down in the suffer zone.

I was hoping to do 130 km today...but it wasn't gona happen...I could have just gone round and round the circuit...but decided to call it day at 120 km.

Jumped on the scale when I got home to see what happens after 6 hrs out on the bike...weight 102.8 kg...this is the reason I don't suggest you weigh on a Monday.

What did we learn today...

Sleep and rest before a 100 km + ride...very important.

Don't eat a bunny chow the night before.

Better planning with regards to fuel for the ride.

Set a distance you want to achieve that day and push through it.

Keep an easy steady pace.

The step...from 100-120 km is just as difficult as the step from 80-100 km...I don't normally cramp...but I find when cross that distance I am not use to ...bam cramping starts.

Nice ride today Ian.

Weigh yourself again tonight and then in the morning. You sure to put on what you have lost after the ride.

The long rides are not easy, you need to fuel yourself to go the distance.

Another suggestion is to go see a dietitian, this way you find out what foods are best suited to you and your lifestyle and you then make this a lifestyle and not a quick fix diet.

Can't seem to find any Rock n roll gold chain lube in KZN...so I had to use another brand ...by the time I finished 120 km on Saturday it sounded like everything was running metal to metal...yesterday I did some research to find another good lube...to my surprise a bike review mentioned using fully synthetic engine oil at a fraction of the cost bicycle lube...I had nothing to loose...got my half liter spare I keep for the car...took a squirt bottle and sucked a bit out of the container...applied to the chain...left for a while...wiped clean and went for a 20 recovery ride...a few squeaks but nothing from the chain.

Weight is the same as yesterday.

140 km of easy cycling and about 20 km of walking ( family walks)

The best excercise can never outrun a bad diet

Many would agree...including myself...the bread is an experiment until the 1 feb weigh in.

Bread roll for lunch on Saturday and lunch and dinner yesterday.

Why not experiment with foods that have much better nutritional values ?

You may not gain alot while eating all of this bread but you certainly won't lose alot, and that is your aim.

Nope, read article below, the real truth is it can be done, just not very easily and most of us don't have the time or drive or ability to do so...

Notable daily intake of the guy in article-

several slices of toast

energy drinks

sprite

pint of icecream

McDonalds/Burger King breakfast

he did average 72 Miles per day though(running)

Because people keep telling everyone...if you eat a slice of bread you gona get fat...at the moment I am eating about a loaf of bread a day...I have "dropped" to 104.6 kg.

People said coffee is bad for you...everyone is drinking more caffeine than ever...chocolates make you fat...but now dark chocolate is good...carbo load before a big event...but now Banting is the best thing.

I know what works..."a balanced eating plan"...like weightless has been the best weight loss plan I have used since I started this journey 2 years ago.

I lost weight fastest Banting...but rather gona go back to weigh less plan from feb

Yes very different story to most guys and like I said most don't have the time, ability or drive to do so, but let us not fool ourselves and believe everything we read in a diet book/advert, it can be done...

the good, the bad, the ugly...

Find what works best for you and make it work. If I had to eat a loaf a day I would be back to over 100kg in just a few days.

We all know its easier said than done, and mentally a big task. I've been through it myself in the last 18 months and went on many rollacoaster rides before getting to where I am.

I know what works in my body so I just stick to it. I can ride back to back days without feeling flat, I recover quicker and can go longer just by eating the foods I need.

I still eat carbs, but quality carbs. Not white bread, white rice, pasta etc.

I visisted a dietitian last week and just waiting on the updated eating plan, its a vegetarian plan but happy to share it with you if you like, just so you can get some idea's.

why would anybody want to eat that though? besides weight issues that stuff is poison.

Quickest way I lost weight was when I dropped all meat from my diet.

Also get some stress in your life, that seems to help as well!

works the other way around for me...stress eating is one of my major problems...the more i stress the more i eat.

i cant comment about the meat...i have always eaten meat.
