Another classic one is when people assume rarity means it is valuable and ask stupid money for the item. Maybe, just maybe that 25 year old bike gatthering dust in the garage is rare because it was shite.

Is it not part of the benefit of bikehub, that the community keeps the community safe.  When you see something that looks suspicious you mention it, if there is an easy answer from the seller there is no problems, if not then it helps other buyers make a more informed decision.

Totally agree. I'm a newbie and appreciate it when hubbers highlights things like incorrect year and groupset models

I can understand 'like new'. It's part of the level of used condition sliding scale. I've had things that I've sold that are is 'like new' or 'virtually new' because that is what they are like. I've never said they are 'new' when used or 'brand new' unless they are just that. "Like new' is better than Good or VGC.

Example is a Revelation fork I sold which had less than 20hrs on it and when took it off, cleaned it and sold it it looked 'like new' so that was just one of the words in the advert I used to describe the condition.

If I say something is in 'excellent' condition do I really mean:
1) possessing outstanding quality or superior merit; remarkably good.

2) extraordinary; superior.

Nope, I mean it's better than VGC and better than the other guy selling his in the classifieds and it's all about how you describe it. You're selling it so like anything in marketing, sell it. Just be damn honest.

Now... if you really want to get me started withpeoplein classifieds then let's turn the conversation to people that advertise a shifter, a cassette and a rear mech as a 'Groupset'. No knuckle, that's a shifting kit. ;)

To these annoying descriptions, one can add 'selling for a friend'

I have just started ordering from overseas due to the number of times I have been to pick up parts that are not what they advertised to be, which are obviously owned by the person I am interacting with, but "they don't know the history or can't say if it has an issue"

What annoys me is the fact that people advertise so lethargic!

"11 speed cassette for sale" nothing more... take sometime and give some more information to what you are selling! Dammit!

It's almost as though you wanna sell but also don't feel like it...

Well said.  Agree 100% on the sliding scale of condition.

Or those that advertise an XT Groupset and then you see that the rear derailleur is XT and everything else is Deore. ;)

Or how about "will post pics tonight" - and 3 weeks later still no pics

What gets to me is when sellers respond to your first enquiry on an item and you accept the response and ask for their banking details, then silence. Can see that they read my request for banking details and the follow-up mail but still no response. I'm starting to think sellers like that should be rated negatively as time wasters.
