In his defense, i met up with him exchanged cash with goods, nice fella! Apparently a med student. I also bought a few more things from him, paid via EFT and i am waiting on the stuff.

He did contact me yesterday saying he had phone issues. I know of another hubber that have dealt with him in the past. He also got his goods after a bit of communication issues.

I wont go as far as saying he is a crook but yes i am also waiting on things which i have paid for that was supposed to be in my hands already.

How did he contact you? Wondering why you and not anyone else? Not implying anything about you, just trying to understand what his motives might be.

So to give a bit more background, our initial deal: he wanted to ship the stuff to me as he was off working/studying/doing time at the hosp (i am guessing) in worcestor a couple of weeks ago. So i told him i am chill because he said he also from somerset west as i am. He then contacted me a week alter saying he is back. He then came to meet me close to my place of work as he is attending class or visiting a hosp i dont know in tygerberg and i work in parow.

We exchanged money and goods and had a bit of a chat. He is a triathlete (hence the name) and he focuses more on road hence the selling of the MTB parts. He then told me he had some more parts. So moving time forward a bit again, i offered to take some more parts of his hands in exchange for some more moola. This was last week. He then said he is in leeu gamka which i dont know why but he said he will send it to me (at no extra cost to me) so i can do the EFT.

So i did. I have not received the goods and send him a message yesterday afternoon asking wassup. I am not going to start calling the cops because its a few days late as i know he is a med student and they are probably working 48hr shifts etc etc. He then replied an hour later saying he lost info on his phone if i could send him my details again.

That was our last contact.

Any other info? To answer your question on why he contacted me and no one else, maybe i am the only guy not trying to call him a crook and demanding my money back etc etc. OR it might be because i am 6 times his size and with internet nowadays i know his birthday, where he studies, even where he rides his bikes so if push comes to shove there are ways to locate him.

I was going to buy a XT derailleur from him a few weeks ago (posted on the Hub) but someone beat me to it. He said he would let me know if the deal fell through, I could then get the part.

He contacted me the next day to say that the money had been paid and the part was no longer available.

I had no issues with him. The comms were difficult at first but not the worst I have experienced from fellow hubbers. Sometimes people get busy and cannot answer straight away.

My 2 cents.

When money has exchanged hands, he could spare 5 minutes to drop a message. At the end of the day, he is unreliable, and should be avoided as it seems like you get your goods when he feels like it. Too risky.

Fair enough. If I had handed over the money and was waiting a few days I would also get a bit peeved.

So i sit with a dilemma. was at the cop shop this morning. They said i must make real sure before i lay a charge because it will be a criminal charge. The kid is 22yr and apparently a medical student. Maybe he is just trying to score a few bucks and does not realize the full extent of his actions but this will sit over his head for the rest of his life.

As a doctor anywhere where he will apply for a job they will do criminal checks and see he has a history...what to do what to do?

maybe he should of thought of that before he did what he did

its not your job to worry about his future its his own responsibility

we could all use a few xtra bucks but we don't do what he did to get it

His actions indicate that he does not have the sense of responsibility necessary to be a medical professional. You are doing everyone a favour.

That is a tough one.  It would be one thing if you could actually communicate with the guy and let him know that you are going to do that if he doesn't come right.  But the fact that he's blocking and ignoring everyone does not even make that possible.

In one sense, I agree - he has not accepted responsibility and suffering the consequences of that is not your responsibility.  However, I also understand that you realise he's still young and obviously immature and your actions could have a lifelong impact on him.  Is it worth it?  And here you are wrestling with whether you want to go down that road, and the one causing the dilemma isn't even aware and doesn't seem to care.

You could try and find his class. However, I was in a similar dilemma a while back. The wifey backed out of the charge also because of a student. However we were involved with the institution and they said no, dont tell us to back out, let the process run its course. Well he got expelled.
